Here’s some info about Westerwald Stoneware from the Westerwald. Up for sale is a nice quality antique lidded Westerwald German Stoneware 2.5ltr. Beer or wine pitcher. It’s has thick stoneware walls with a blue and white high relief design depicting. Four Roman Emperors on top row with three coats of arms along the bottom. The stein has an ornate handle which is mounted with a hinged pewter lid and. It is in great condition and marked 148 on the bottom. The pitcher or jug measures 14 inches tall, and 21 inches in diameter. At its widest part. The inscription says gesang und liebe im schonen verein erhalten. Dem leben jugend schein which translates to. Singing and love in a beautiful club give life a youthful glow.
Westerwald Salt Glazed Pottery Beer Ewer Pitcher with Lid, German, 1930s/signed
A large German Westerwald pottery ewer or pitcher with an animal head spout. Elaborately decorated in deep cobalt blue with heraldic imagery and symbols and stamped throughout with leaves, quatrefoils and medallions. Westerwald pottery, or stoneware is a distinctive type of salt glazed grey pottery from the area of Westerwaldkreis in the Rheinland. Salt glaze has a greyish white surface with a texture like an orange peel. It has a pewter lid, a little hairline crack at the pewter handle part to open the lid. The inscription on the front in german”Ein guter trink macht alle jung” translate in english “A good drink makes everyboty younger”. Westerwald Antique German Salt Glazed Stoneware Lidded Beer Stein Birnkrug EUC
Lovely antique Beer Stein/Birnkrug from the Westerwald Region of Germany. Color is grey with hand incised cobalt blue floral decoration. Pewter lid shows some signs of age & the inside of the lid has some rust. Top of lid is engraved with the name A. 1 1/2 liter capacity. The Birnkrug is pear shaped & shows very few signs of its age but has some minor flaws due to being hand made. No chips, cracks or repairs that we can detect. Pewter lid & ball thumb lift. 10 1/2 to top of lid not including the thumb lift. Please enlarge & check out the photos as they are part of the description.
