Antique German Enameled Glass Beer Stein Farmers Occupation c. 1820s
Antique German Enameled Glass Beer Stein Farmer’s Occupation c. Description: This very interesting stein was made in the so-called Biedermeier period of 1800 – 1820. It is made of blown crystal glass with a round pedestal and a massive hand-applied handle. The stein is nicely painted with glass enamel – this was a technique that required some serious skills and created beautiful artwork. It shows the tools of farmer’s trade – hayfork with a scythe and a rake. This is a typical “occupational” beer stein of the early 1800s, dedicated to the farmer’s occupation. This type of glass beer steins was very common in the 1800 – 1820. The steins of this kind came mostly from Bohemia. The lid is of a steep type with the cone-shaped thumblift sitting on the lid and five-ring closed type hinge – also typical for this period. The lid is engraved with initials M. The stein has a line on the back, where the bottom of the handle connects. It is quite stable and shows a wonderful appearance. The stein is 9 tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.5L capacity. Antique Large German Glass Beer Stein/Server Enameled Mary Gregory Type c. 1880s
Antique Large Beer Stein/Server Mary Gregory Type Enameled c. Description: Presented is a very large and beautiful pouring beer stein/server made in a style that is called “Mary Gregory type”. There are many speculations as to who Mary Gregory was. It is known that she worked for the Sandwich Glass factory in 1880. Most often, the name “Mary Gregory” is referred to the glass with white enamel paintings on colored glass. The technique, however, originated in Germany around 1870s – the American implementation of it was secondary. This serving stein is German, and it was made in the 1880s. The stein is made of hand-blown bottle-green glass with some texture on the surface, creating a wonderful optical effect. The handle is formed into a floral stem and manually applied. The lid is pewter with ornate thumblift and three ring open type hinge. The picture is painted with white enamel with different layers forming shades and even relief giving a fantastic impression. It shows a young girl in a snowy forest admiring a flower – maybe a first snowdrop. Great serving stein with wonderful theme and in excellent condition. It is very large and impressive, standing 13.5 tall to the top of the thumblift, 2 L capacity. Height: 13.5 in. Get images that make Supersized seem small. Track Page Views With. Antique German Jugendstil Glass Enameled Beer Stein des. By F. Ringer c. 1905
Antique German Jugendstil Glass Beer Stein Enameled des. Description: Great stein in Jugendstil (German Art Nouveau) style. Classical hand-blown bohemian glass with enameled decorations. Designed by Franz Ringer – he was the most famous Jugendstil artist and designer who actually created this style – inspired by Jugendstill/Art Nouveau historically stylized in early 1800s aesthetics called Biedermeier. A prominent painter and sculptor from Munich, he also created many well-known beer stein designs for Marzi and Remy, Villeroy and Boch Mettlach, Reinhold Merkelbach and many others. The design consists of a medallion with a scene of a hunter shooting a lleaping stag. The stein is not signed by FR signature, but this design is quite famous. You can see it in my scan of a page from “The Beer Stein Book” by Gary Kirsner, attributed to Ringer. The lid is pewter designed as well in this specific Jugendstil style. The glass steins with F. Ringer designs are quite rare – they’re really hard to find. Please keep in mind the old glass is absolutely safe to drink from – it could be cleaned perfectly as opposed to antique stoneware, pewter or pottery. The stein is in excellent condition. It is 8 tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.5 L capacity. Auctiva offers Free Image Hosting and Editing. Track Page Views With. Auctiva’s FREE Counter. Antique German Saxonian Biedermeier Glass Beer Stein Blown and Enameled Freundschaft c. A classical German glass beer stein from the period of late Biedermeier 1820s – to 1850s. Beer steins made before 1850 fall into the “early” category – they were nade w pre-industrial period using manual techniques and old technologies. Blown crystal glass with applied thick handle and large pontil mark. Squeezed-ball thumblift and five-ring closed type hinge – all typical for the late Biedermeier period. Hand-painted and decorated with beautiful enameled decorations using great skills – a true antique art object. This type of glass beer steins were made in the German state of Saxony in 1820s-1850s. The shield on front is inscripbed with gold – the inscription is worn but I think it says “Freundschaft” – “Friendship” – the stein was given by someone as a gift to a friend. The lid is engraved with the intials J. Very good condition of the glass with some age-related wear to the paint. Nice very typical beer drinking vessel over 180 years old! I guarantee my dating. 5.5 tall to the top of the thumblift, about 0.4 L capacity. Please note that the glass beer steins are perfectly safe to use for their purpose – to drink beer! Antique German Bohemian Blown Glass Enameled Beer Stein Shooting Society by Theodore Otto Hahn c. The stein is decorated with enameled picture of a Renaissance gentleman with a musket. The inscription reads: “SCHUETZEN GESELLSCH HEIMATH” that I translate as “Shooting Society protects Homeland”. The left side panel shows shooting target, the right one has a picture of a Medieval cross-bow archer with a modern (at the time) gentleman and the words: Bayern Schutzen-Verh. ” – Bavarian Shooting Society”. The design belongs to Theodor Otto Hahn, an important and well-known artist/beer stein decorator who worked in Munich under the company name of Kakam Porzellan. See the “Kakam” signature on the detail picture. The crown mark with letters “G S” impressed in the bottom is the Saxonian Glass factory mark. Excellent flawless condition of the body, the lids hinge is missing the central ring – still totally functional. The stein is 7.5 to the top of the thumblift, 0.5L capacity. Condition: Excellent with one ring in the hinge missing. Height: 7.5 in. Auctiva offers Free Image Hosting and Editing. Track Page Views With. Antique German Lithophane Regimental Beer Stein Hand Painted & Enameled C 1905
ANTIQUE GERMAN LITHOPHANE REGIMENTAL BEER STEIN HAND PAINTED & ENAMELED – CIRCA 1905. Measures approximately 11″ high by 4 1/4″ in diameter at the base by 5 1/2 deep (front to the back edge of the handle). Excellent condition with the exception of one chip at the base. A ceramic restorer can easily repair this chip. The majority of authentic German regimental beer steins were produced between about 1890 and 1914. During this time, military service was compulsory in Germany. Most men would take basic training between 17 and 20 and then enter the reserves until age 40. A group of men would enter a unit together, stay in the same unit for training and be discharged as a unit. Many souvenir items were available such as pipes, clocks, flasks and especially steins. Rosters of names from your unit, or regiment, could be added to the steins and these became known to collectors as regimental steins. Regardless of what the stein was made of, almost all had pewter lids. The most common sizes are half-litre and one-litre. The beginning of WW I effectively ended the production of regimental steins as labor and materials were diverted to the war. A lot of reproductions of regimental beer stein have been made. This stein has all the features and characteristics of an authentic, original regimental beer stein. I do not see any of the usual signs of a reproduction stein.
