Spectacular Cut Crystal Beer Tankard Mug. Tankard Beer Mug Glass approximately 5 inches tall x 4 inches wide. Sterling Silver 925 hinged lid in pristine condition. I would say never used. Antique German Green Glass and Silver Plate Beer Stein Historismus by WMF c. Description: Presented is a beautiful German beer stein made of hand-blown green glass with fantastic silverplated mounts. The stein was made in around 1892 and is designed in distinctive “Historismus” style with Renaissance style decorations and lion thumblift. The stein was manufactured by WMF or Wurtemburgische Metallwaren Fabrik – very famous for it’s Art Nouveau and Historismus designs and unique silverplate technique. It was designed under the influential sculptor/designer Albert Mayer. Mayer was appointed head of the Art Studio in 1894. WMF was a major German metal ware designer company, operating in many countries. The glass is stone cut creating facets for beautiful optical effects. There is a presentation engraving on the lid reading: Ihrem hochgeschatzen I. Vorsitzenden “Geselschaft Edelweiss 23/7/92″ – “To our esteemed 1st chairman of “Edelweiss Society” July 23d 1892″. The mark was in use in 1880 – 1913. Number “20” is most likely the model number. The stein is in excellent condition, the silver plate is almost completely intact. No damage or repairs. It has a beautiful nicely polished solid silver lid. The lid is elaborately engraved with a nicely designed initials P. ” The lid is marked with the German silver purity mark “800, half moon and a crown used after 1886, and the maker’s mark that I identify as the mark for Gebruder (Brothers) Kuhn, silversmiths in Schwabische Gmund. The company was established in 1860 and is still active. Judging by the details (handle attachment, hinge and the style of the initials) I date the stein to the 1930s. The stein is in excellent condition. There is no chips or lines, the lid is in perfect condition as well. The stein is 6.5 to the top of the thumblift, 0.5L capacity. Height: 6.5 in. Antique German Bohemian Blown Glass Stone Cut Beer Stein Silver Lid Shooting Club c. This beautiful and impressive beer stein was made hand blown of crystal glass and elaborately cut to create vertical facets for the perfect optical effect. The steins of this kind came mostly from Bohemia – now the Western part of Czech Republic, before – a part of German Holy Roman Empire and at that time part of Austrian Empire. It has a beautiful nicely polished solid silver lid. The lid is elaborately engraved with a presentation inscription: Schutzen Clubb Zur Erinnerung 1870/1871 Ihrem Biermeier Sebastian It means that the stein was a gift from a Shooting Club to their Beer Master to commemorate his 1 year work. Apparently, there was a person in the shooting club who was a dedicated administrator of all the beer needs of the club members. The lid shows a beautiful figural thumblift with a copy of the Bavaria statue – a lady with a lion. It is a female personification of the Bavarian homeland, and by extension its strength and glory that was build in Munich, Germany between 1844 and 1850. I think it is safe to assume that the Shooting Club was in Munich. The lid is marked with the old German silver purity mark “13”. 812 used before 1886, and the maker’s mark “MW” The stein is in excellent condition. There is no chips or lines, the lid is in perfect condition as well. The stein is 7 to the top of the thumblift, 0.5L capacity. Materials: Cut crystal glass, silver lid. Otto von Bismark (1815 – 1898) was the beloved architect and first chancellor of the German Empire. He was very popular among German military for his role in unification of Germany. The lid was manufactured by WMF or Wurtemburgische Metallwaren Fabrik – very famous for it’s Jugendstil designs and unique silverplate technique. The lid is engraved with Wilh. Ginsberg name in old German script. Excellent condition with No damage or repairs, virtually no wear to the plate. The stein is 5.5 tall to the top of the thumblift. It is 0.3L capacity.
