Antique German Hauber&Reuther HR Beer Stein Etched #172 w/Unusual Lid dated 1891. The steins produced by HR are ones of the most collectable and desirable for the excellent quality and rarity. The stein is made of saltglazed stoneware in combined technique of tapestry and etched. The etched beer stein by HR were of excellent quality compared only to Mettlach. The stein was also hand-touched to accent the details. It depicts a gentleman holding a cat in one hand and pickled herring in another. The tomcat as experience shows. Dies of sour herring. A cat in German drinking culture represents hangover, pickled herring – a cure. The stein has a quite unusual lid – it was made by Bernsdorfer Metlawork. Just a good example of people trying to find better lid systems than the tradional pewter ones. The stein is dated 10/31/1891 on the lid. Please note the the etched tapestry-type steins by HR doesn’t come up very often. It is in excellent flawless condition, there are no chip nor cracks. 1913-1916 Imperial German 2nd Bavarian Cavalry Lidded Beer Stein Named
This stein is an excellent hand painted piece with pewter lid, adorned with Imperial German imagery. The front shows Wilhelm the 2nd and two very high ranking men with an iron cross. The left side shows a cavalryman on horseback, accepting flowers from a young maiden. The right side shows many cavalrymen mounted, and ready to charge into glorious battle The back is very simple, with the images stretching almost completely around. The handle has a rather simple design painted onto it. The bottom shows a KR Germany stamp, as well as hand painted in German. The lid ornament has a cavalry officer ready to charge, with the thumb lever a Bavarian lion holding up the state’s crest. There is a lithophane present in the bottom of this stein. German Beer Stein Antique Westerwald Birnkrug Salt Glazed Stoneware Pewter Lid
Antique stoneware lidded Stein/Birnkrug from the Westerwald Region of Germany. Hand thrown, salt glazed & incised. Grey with cobalt blue decoration. Pear shaped with pewter lid & ball thumb lift. Lid is a little loose & the ball lift looks bent. The stein is in great shape for its age but has some minor flaws due to being hand made. No chips, cracks or repairs that we can detect. Has been displayed in our smoke free home for many years. 11 1/2 to top of thumb lift. Item is solid & heavy. Please enlarge & check out the photos as they are part of the description. Early 20th Century German Faceted Glass Beer Stein w Porcelain Inlaid Lid
Early 20th Century German Faceted Glass Beer Stein. The stein features clear and frosted vertical panels of glass. A gold “AK” decorates the center front. The gold letters are trimmed with thin red and black colors. The pewter banded lid is decorated with inlaid porcelain that is decorated with a colorful design — a white ground featuring a shield “Alle 9″– lion, pig and dog — “Kegelclub Loreley”. The lid is trimmed with a thin beaded band. The interior part of the lid is inscribed, and dated 1913. The thumblift is an Eagle shape. The base has an impressed star design. The side by the handle is marked, “0.45L”. SIZE: 7 1/8 inches high to the top of the thumblift x 5 1/2 inches wide from the side to the edge of the handle. CONDITION: Consistent with age, the stein has some wear. The top rim has some roughness with flakes, and an inner rim chip near the handle area. The lid has some wear with discoloration around the edge of the white porcelain. The base rim edge has a few rough areas. Overall the stein is in nice condition. Great collector’s stein.
