Antique German/Bohemian Glass Beer Stein White Overlay Wheel Cut c. 1870s
Antique German/Bohemian Glass Beer Stein Clear w/White Overlay Wheel Cut c. Description: This beautiful old stein was mouth-blown of crystal glass around the 1870s. The majority of steins of this type were made in German Bohemia – now Czech Republic. It was made using a very complex and labor-intensive technique called “overlay” – a freshly-blown clear glass stein was submerged into a white glass to create a layer of white overlay. It was then stone-cut, creating heart-forming facets that reveal the clear glass surface. The handle is attached the white glass layer and also stone-cut. The lid has a porcelain overlay with a beautiful miniature painting of a couple riding a boat with a musician to entertain them. This is a real hand-painted miniature, not the usual paint over transfer outline. There is a polished-out pontil mark on the bottom. The pewter mounts have a 3-ring open hinge and ornate thumblift – the typical techniques used in the 1870s. The stein is in excellent mint condition. The stein is 6.5 tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.5L capacity. Height: 6.5 in. Auctiva offers Free Image Hosting and Editing. Track Page Views With.
