Drinker's Fire by Mettlach 1/2 liter German beer stein antique # 2091 fireman
” Drinker’s Fire “. German ceramic, etched, 1/2 L, ceramic inlaid lid. The text on the body reads: Feuersnoth is grosse Noth, oft gross der Brand beim Glas. Der eine färbt den Himmel roth, der andere die Nas. ” & “O heil’ger Florian! Lass meinen Brand in Ruhe gann! Doch strömt dein Wasser über mir! So bitt’ ich schütte nichts in’s Bier. And translates to : Fire is a great disaster, often great is the fire in the glass. One colors the sky red, the other the nose. ” & “Oh, Saint Florian! Let my fire be in peace! Pour your water over me! But please don’t pour any in the beer! Condition and Description: Overall a good condition specimen, one condition issue of note, the handle was broken and repaired (exactly as pictured). This a great stein, with a fun scene, St. Florian (the patron saint of firemen) is putting out the drinker’s heartburn! A nice extra little touch is the detailed thumblift depicting a fireman flanked by a large water barrel. All in all, this is a neat stein with great color and tremendous presence – displays incredibly well. Height: 8.5 tall from base to top of thumblift. Width: 4 at the base of stein’s body. Antique Pewter German Beer Stein Over 200 yrs Old
This German Antique Pewter Stein has the year 1775 engraved on it. At over 200+ years old it is still in very good condition! It has the letters A. In scripted on the lid which is for A. It is engraved with a goat on the face and ornate designs on the sides! There are 3 markings on the bottom. This is an excellent piece, a great conversation starter and a great addition to any collection! Here is the information regarding the pewter smith who made this piece in Pirna Germany. He obtained his Master status in 1797 meaning this stein could of been made between 1797 and 1809 when he stopped paying the Quarterly dues to the guild in Dresden. The marking of 1775 may have been placed onto the piece as a tribute date or possibly made in 1775 as a gift and stamped later. I added a photo of the marking 1088 found in “Hintzie Zinngeisser” volume 1. This item is in the category “Collectibles\Breweriana, Beer\Drinkware, Steins\Lidded Steins\Germany”.
