Large Antique German Saltgalzed Stoneware Westerwald Etched Beer Stein/Pitcher c. Description: This very large antique pouring beer stein was made around the mid-1850s. It is a very traditional type of serving beer steins or “master steins” – large with a bulbous form called “Birnkrug” or “pear-shaped steins”. The stein is made of saltglazed stoneware hand-turned and manually decorated with a beautiful etched and incised into the body floral patterns. This was done with several kinds of wooden sticks when the clay was still soft. It is also glazed with cobalt -blue glaze The lid is pewter with the small ball thumblift. Five-ring closed type hinge. The stein is in excellent condition for the age – there are no cracks or hairlines. There are some manufacturing impurities due to the pre-industrial manual manufacturing technology. It is large and impressive pouring steins, standing 11.5 to the top of the thumblift, 1 1/2 L capacity. I guarantee my dating and description! Condition: Excellent for the age. Height: 11.5 in. Antique German Mold Blown Glass Beer Stein Hand Painted Lid King Gambrinus c. Description: This very interesting German beer stein was made around 1860s. The body of the stein is made of mold-blown glass – a technique very popular in mid 19th century in Germanys in Germany. The glass was hand-blown into a wooden mold and the handle was applied manually. The lid is pewter inlaid with hand-painted porcelain inlay. The inlay is a nicely and skillfully painted with porcelain miniature showing King Gambrinus – the legendary king believed to be the inventor of beer and champion of cheerful good-humored life. Beautiful example of miniature painting on porcelain. It is in excellent condition with only minimal age-related wear. The stein is engraved with the word name? “Wusl” and the date of 1994. This is a recent addition – the stein is guaranteed from 1860s. It is 6 tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.3L capacity. I guaramtee my description and dating. Antique Ruby Red German Bohemian Stone-Cut Glass Beer Stein w/Inlaid Lid c. Description: Presented is a beautiful ruby red glass German beer stein with inlaid pewter lid with fantastic decorations created in the 1850s – 1860s in the German controlled Bohemia (now Czech Republic). The body of the stein is made of hand-blown Bohemian crystal glass with applied handle. It was flashed with ruby-red translucent layer. The glass then was cut on a stone wheel to create beautiful decorations giving a wonderful optical. The lid is pewter with matching glass inlay of the same technique and color. The lid is pewter with the above mentioned inlay and the thumblift in form of a lyre – apparently, the owner was a musician who made a special order for the lid. The hinge is small five-ring closed type, this type of the hinge was used in the mid-1800s. The stein is in excellent condition, with no lines, chips or repairs.
