Antique German Beer Stein Creussen Type Apostles Apostelkrug c. 1890s
Antique German Beer Stein Creussen Apostles Apostelkrug c. Description: Antique German beer stein made to imitate Renaissance period beer steins made in Creussen in 1600s. These Creussen beer vessels were extremely expensive at the time and very prestigious. In 1880s – 1890s several beer stein manufacturers produced steins imitating faience of 1700s, Creussen and Annaberg stoneware and some Westerwald stoneware of 1600s – 1700s. They were not trying to fake or reproduce them but just worked in popular at the time style called Historismus. This stein is a fine example of Historismus style. It’s form and decorations imitate Creussen steins of mid-1600s with the Twelve Apostles Theme – they show 12 figures with halos representing the twelve Apostles. The stein is made of dark brown stoneware – exactly like Creussen’s – handpainted with brightly colored ceramics paint. The stein has no cracks, chips or other structural damage. Some extensive paint wear. The lid is engraved with initials F. The lid is original to the date but is a replacement lid for the stein. The foot ring is original to the stein. Please note – I have included a picture from Johannes Vogt catalog to show the original Creussen. It is not the one for sale. It is 7 tall to the top of the finial, 1L capacity. Condition: Paint wear, replacement lid. Auctiva offers Free Image Hosting and Editing. Track Page Views With.

Antique German Beer Stein Relief Three Landsknechts by A. Diesinger c. 1890s
Antique German Beer Stein Relief Three Landsknechts by A. Description: This beautiful stein was made in Germany by Adolph Diesinger in the 1890s. Diesinger is one of the most collectable beer stein manufacturers. The beer stein made in his factory are considered by some collectors as “quintessentially German”. Adolph Diesinger – the owner of the factory – was at the same time the artist who created these designs – very close to “naive art” to the point of being kitschy. Made in relief technique with a center panel deco rated with relief picture of a medieval soldier carrying a crossbow. This is “Landsknecht” – a mercenary soldier of XV – XVI centuries, a very popular subject matter in A. The lid is pewter with ornate thumblift. Marked with “Germany” – the “Germany” or “Made in Germany” was required for all the items that potentially could be exported, according to the German “Merchandise Marks Act of 1887″. Diesinger took a patent on his designs and started marking his stein with DRGM patent statement. So we can with much certainty say that the stein was made between 1887 and 1901. Th is is a very impressive tall stein – it is 10.5 tall to the top of the finial, 0,5L capacity. Height: 10.5 in. Get images that make Supersized seem small. Track Page Views With.

Antique German Blown and Stone Cut Glass Beer Stein with Traveling Man Thumblift c. This beautiful and very elegant beer stein was made around 1880s – 1890s of blown glass with attached handle and glass inlaid pewter lid. It is made in a shape of a goblet with a short stem and wide foot and decorated with stone cut facets for great optical effect. The pewter lid is nice and ornate, with the glass inlay also stone-cut to create a diamond-like look. The thumblift is in a form of a travelling man with a backpack, a walking stick and a flask in his hand, very interesting and unusual. The stein is in excellent flawless condition. Please note – the glass beer steins are the ones that could be actually used for drinking – I wouldn’t recommend drinking from antique stoneware or pewter, but antique glass cleans perfectly. The stein is standing 9 tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.25L capacity. Get images that make Supersized seem small. Track Page Views With.

Antique German Porcelain Beer Stein Occupational Miller withLithophane c. 1890s
Antique German Porcelain Beer Stein Occupational Miller w/Lithophane c. Description: This beer stein belongs to the “occupational” family of German beer vessels. It was made for a miller who was very proud of his occupation. The steins of this sort were quite expensive at the time and could be compared with the regimental or “Reservisten” family of collectible antique beer steins. The stein was made around 1880 – 1890 of hard porcelain with enameled art and ornate pewter lid. It is decorated with a nicely hand-painted over transfer outline of a pair of heraldic rampant lions holding a water wheel with other tools of the miller’s’s trade – millstone and grinding rolls. The name of the miller is written beneath: “Johann Hobmeier” The inscription reads: Hoch lebe das edle Handwerk der Muller! – Long live the noblde handcraft of the miller! The one at the very bottom says: “Eher soll die Welt verderben als vor Durst ein Muller sterben” – The world should come to an end before a miller should die of thirst. The stein has a lithophane – a picture in the bottom that you can only see through light – showing a loving couple kissing. Most likely, it’s a farewell kiss before the hunter goes to the mountains. Antique German Character Beer Stein – Smiling Monk by Merkelbach and Wick 0.3L c. Description: This very interesting German beer stein belongs to the family of character steins – steins made in a shape of an object or person. They are also called “figural”. This particular one is made in a shape of a monk wearing his robe with a rosary on his side. His head forms the lid – he’s got a smiling happy impression on his face. Monks were always asociated with brewing and beer drinking so a stein in form of a monk was the most popular character stein in Germany. Made of the very traditional gray saltglazed stoneware with cobalt-blue glaze and pewter mounts. It has the same body but the head is different – he has a beard and wearing a hood. I also have several monk steins in a larger size. Please take a look at my auctions. Excellent flawless condition – no chips, cracks or other damage.
