Antique German Etched Beer Stein by J. P. Thewalt Drinking Cavaliers #1296 c. 1900
Antique German Etched Beer Stein Drinking Cavaliers by Johann Peter Thewalt #1296 c. Description: This beautiful very old German beer stein is made in “etched” technique – the contours of the decoration are incised into the body. This technique was used by different manufacturers around the turn of the 19th century – the most famous was Mettlach, but also J. Remy, Hauber and Reuther, and some others used it to create very beautiful (and also expensive at the time) exclusive beer vessels. This one was made by Jo hann Peter Th ewalt around early 1900. The scene on the stein shows a group of Renaissance cavaliers drinking in a monastery yard with a monk coming from the cellar offering some more brew. The inscription reads: Ein guter Fund zur rechten Stund. A good find for the right hour. The stein is in excellent condition – no chips, lines or any other damages. The lid is pewter with a ceramic inlay which is also etched with two owls and a glass of wine (a symbol of drinking wisely in this case) and the word Prosit! – To your health! The stein is large and impressive, standing 10 tall, 1 L capacity. Maker: Johann Peter Thewalt. Get images that make Supersized seem small. Track Page Views With.

Pour a cool beer into a drinking horn from KING-Werk. And if you don’t feel thirsty, you can enjoy the sight of the timeless shape, the great decorations and the elaborately ornamented lids made of genuine pewter. This magnificent horn with its total height of 13 inches has many “extras” to offer. Through the noble black glaze, the sea eagle heads fall directly into the eye. German Beer Stein 926 Knight and Landsknecht Drinking
926 – In good to very good condition – No cracks or chips but looks like the lid has a broken thumb opener part. Measures about 8.5 tall. Pottery, etched, 0.3L, with lid. Text: Ob Rittersmann, ob Lanzenknecht, ein jeder gern sein Schoppen zecht. Whether knight or soldier, each gladly downs his portion of beer. Landsknecht were feudal serfs used for military purposes by their master. These “soldiers” were often traded between landowners and were, in a sense, the equivalent of modern mercenaries, with the important difference that they were not free to choose their employer. This is a used item so minor signs of wear should be expected. Any additional notes specific to this item are listed above. This will be packed with care for safe travels. Reasonable offers are considered.
