1880 Fritz Thenn German salt glaze stoneware figural ceramic beer stein 10+. This stein is a very rare find originating in Regensburg, Germany, in the Fritz Thenn factory. The gray ceramic stein is topped off by an even more rare figural porcelain lid of a young man eyeing an empty stein. The sides of the stein features King Gambrinus, the legendary inventor of brewing, astride a barrel, flanked on either side by personifications of barley and hops. The text roughly translates to Live it up, live with thanks to Gambrinus, barley, and hops. This stein is in fantastic condition for its age, and is a very difficult one to find, so add it to your collection today!

VINTAGE GERMAN FIGURAL POTTERY BEER STEIN MONKEY SMOKING PIPE MATTHIAS GIRMSCHEI. VINTAGE GERMAN FIGURAL POTTERY BEER STEIN MONKEY SMOKING PIPE MATTHIAS GIRMSCHEID 828 EXCELLENT CONDITION. Here offered is a mid 20th Century Art Pottery Figural Beer Stein which, I believe, is from the Matthias Girmscheid Pottery Company Germany. This is stamped on the bottom 828 Germany. This shows a comic Monkey in a Top Hat Smog a Pipe. This is in excellent vintage condition with no chips. Cracks, or paint loss. This is 4″ in diameter on the base 5 3/4″ from front to back of handle, and 8 1/4 high. The “Old-German Beer Stein” tag is dated 1960 and was in the Stein when we acquired it from a recent Estate Sale. I do not know if it was original to the Stein or not. Gesetzlich Geschutzt Circa 1900 1/2L German Figural beer stein antique
This antique German beer stein is a true gem for any collector of breweriana. “Those old Germans did’nt know when to quit-they would just keep on drinking another last one” is inscribed in German on the Stien. The stein features a figural design of woodsmen enjoying a drink. It is approximately 1/2 liter in capacity. The item bears the marking “Gesetzlich Geschutzt” and is believed to date back to the early 1900s. The stein was manufactured by Merkelbach & Wick in Germany and is in great condition for its age. It would make a great addition to any collection or a unique gift for a beer aficionado. There is an inscription on the lidd. 1900 Diesinger child’s figural clown stein with set on lid. The stein is a rare find, the lid an even rarer one. Zum Wohllein Dem Liebenkinde translates to something like Cheers to the Dear Child. With the lid 4. Inches tall, without 2 5/8 inches tall. Small chip on the base. Some nicks on the bottom of the hat lid. Please see photos for condition. Guaranteed old and original.
Matthias Girmscheid Figural German Ceramic Owl Character Beer Stein Lid No. 740
Pottery, figural, 0.5L. Matthias Girmscheid was born in 1845 to merchant parents and began his working life in the family tradition, opening his own trading firm in 1870 in the town of Höhr. Girmscheid’s manufacturing company began it’s life in 1884 and was apparently engaged initially in the manufacture of clay pipes. It is not known precisely when Girmscheid expanded his operation to include the manufacture of beer steins and related stoneware products, but by 1903 the firm was listed as a “stoneware factory”. In 1920, in what was almost certainly a response to Germany’s difficult post-war economy, Girmscheid merged with the firm of Gilles & Sohn. In 1930, two years following the death of Matthias Girmsched, the composition of the firm changed again. The new firm was called Girmscheid, Michels & Company, and included among its owners: Karl Girmscheid, who had taken over for his father; Simon Gilles, of Gilles & Sohn; and Alfons and Eduard Michels. Following the death of Karl Girmscheid in 1950, the company went through a series of ownership changes, but it continues in operation today, enjoying a healthy business focused principally on the manufacture of traditional salt-glazed tableware and decorative items. Antique German Reinhold Merkelbach Lidded Figural Monk Character Beer Stein. 5L
Marked Made in Germany 21 on base. Merkelbach Manufaktur was established in 1843. The founder was Wilhelm Merkelbach whose family pottery traditions had dated bach to 17th century. The pottery was developed by his son Reinhold Merkelbach. After his death the Merkelbach Manufaktur was managed by widow Toska Merkelbach and in 1907 it was overtaken by sons Paul and Reinhold Merkelbach. The sons of Toska Merkelbach died in the WWI. She had to manage the company again in order to save manufactory for her grandson Reinhold Paul Bernhard Merkelbach born in 1918. Professor Reinhold Paul Bernhard Merkelbach took over a factory in 1957. He was a scientist and the factory was run by managers. In 1971 50 percent of the company was bought by W. In 1985 Goebel overtook remaining 50 percent of the downsized company. In 1988 Merkelbach family and a collector and some workers repurchased the factory. Production had to be stopped around 2007 when it became clear that further production of ceramics in Germany was no longer a viable option. Large Antique German Glass Beer Stein Figural Pewter Enameled A’Schmarrn G. Description: Fantastic large antique German beer stein made of hand-blown crystal glass with applied handle, enameled decoration and absolutely astonishing pewter. The design shows a waitress in a tavern bringing some dish to a group of men in traditional Bavarian attire, with one of the man being very excited about the dish (and maybe the waitress as well). Apparently, the Bavarian life was considered true German unspoiled bucolic way of living. The name of the painting is “Kaiserschmarrn” – it is a popular Bavarian desert dish of shredded pancakes with many different sweet sauces and fillings. So, the waitress in the picture is bringing these “A’Schmarrn” to the table. The stein features absolutely fantastic pewter with a steeple lid toppled with a figural finial in the form of a dancing Bavarian couple. The stein also has a massive ornate foot ring – the pewter mounts of this quality are rarely seen. The lid is engraved with a presentation inscription: Gew. (Gebirgs Trachten Erhaltungs Verein) is a “Mountain Costume Preservation Society”. Goldbergler Helfendorf is still present and quite active in the Helfendorf area of Bavaria. There are actually some G. This is a very impressive stein measuring 12 tall to the top of the finial with the capacity of 1 L.
