Mettlach German 0.5L Beer Stein -Beer Maid with Stein- Hops Glowing
We are offering a German Mettlach 0.5L pewter lidded beer stein with ball thumb lift. This stein is in very good clean and undamaged condition. The pewter lid has several light dings. The scene s that of a lovely bar maid carrying a stein full of frothing beer. The phrase translates to “Glowing Hops”. There is a five ring hinge, the strap is tight and the lid is firmly attached to the tang. We want you to have a pleasant experience. Your satisfaction is our guarantee.
Antique German character stein. 5L Hops Maiden Lady Reinhold Hanke German Pewter
This antique Beer Stein is Rare – it is the Hops Maiden by Reinhold Hanke of Germany – approximately 100 years old. The stein is marked as shown in the photos – it is a fairly complete and easy to read mark so I will skip writing about it – see photos. This is a lovely design with a smiling lady’s face and hair, the hair full of HOPS that are draping around her forhead and all the way around to the back of the stein – Hops is a vine and it is shown is high relief with a sculptural effect on this stein. The maiden’s face is glazed with a high gloss, perhaps luster, glaze. Her blue collar says PROSIT, which means CHEERS. The Pewter lid is shaped (by Hanke) to conform to the irregularities due to the HOPS along the rim – this shaping of the pewter lid was done for practical reasons, to keep bugs out of the beer. The Pewter has dark aged patina on the outside and is more shiny/silvery on the inside where it has not been exposed to the elements as much. The brown glaze on the handle has a few little scuff marks from wear / use as shown. Approximately 7 to the top of the finial on the lid. There is a Maker Mark “KB” for Kilian (Karl) Beuler. The stein is 8 3/8 tall with lid, and in very good preowned condition, no chips or cracks.
