Large Antique Jugendstil German Beer Stein Duemler/Breiden by Paul Wynand #1741 c. Description: Presented is large antique German beer stein/server from the early 1930s – the end of the era of German version of Art Nouveau called in Germany “Jugendstil” and the beginning of Art Deco. Made of stoneware with beautiful brown glaze created to imitate the famous “Braun gefflammt” glaze by R. Merkelbach very popular at the time. Nice pewter lid with elegant thumblift. The majority of the Duemler and Breiden were designed by Paul Duemler. However, there were a few steins that were designed by guest designers such as Paul Wynand, Alfred Kapm and some others. Antique Large German Stoneware Beer Stein, Genre Hunting Scene in Relief, c1900
This antique German stoneware beer stein depicts a lively tavern scene in relief and is a fine addition to any breweriana collection. Crafted around 1900, this large lidded stein was made in Germany and features intricate details that showcase the country’s rich brewing heritage. Blue Red Green and Cream colors! A lidded stein, and it appears to have been manufactured in Germany but makers mark appears to have been worn over time and age. The stein’s theme revolves around breweriana, and the hunting scene depicted on it adds to its uniqueness. There are two noted things that I want to call out. One the top of the pewter lid appears to be slightly bent (could be how it was made but I want to call it out). Two there is a slight crack on bottom of stein. It’s not through and is hairline.

Only condition issues of note, an original factory defect under the glaze, just above the base and directly below the 3 leaves & the pewter lid has a couple dings and some slop (exactly as pictured). This is a great stein, with nice color and tremendous presence! In particular, the side scenes of castles with saying are quite interesting. Height: 15.8 tall from base to top of finial. Large Antique German Stoneware Westerwald Etched Beer Stein/Pitcher c. 1820s
Large Antique German Saltglazed Stoneware Westerwald Etched Beer Stein/Pitcher c. It is a very traditional type of serving beer steins or “master steins” – large with a bulbous form called “Birnkrug” or “pear-shaped steins”. The stein is made of saltglazed stoneware hand-turned and manually decorated with a beautiful etched and incised into the body floral patterns. This was done with several kinds of wooden sticks when the clay was still soft. It is also glazed with cobalt -blue glaze The lid is pewter with the large hollow ball thumblift and five-ring closed type hinge. This type of hinge and thumblift were the most common from mid-1700s to mid-1800s. The stein is in excellent condition for the age – there are no chips, cracks or hairlines. There are some manufacturing impurities due to the pre-industrial manual manufacturing technology. Please note – the line you see on the bottom is not a crack – it’s a superficial firing line. It is large and impressive pouring steins, standing 14.5 to the top of the thumblift, about 3 L capacity. I guarantee my dating and description! Condition: Excellent for the age. Height: 14.5 in. Large Vintage German Silvertone Beer Stein Tankard- Height 11.5 – 970 grams. Size: 11.5inches in height. Diameter of the bottom is 5 5/8inches approx. Width of the unit with the handle is approx 8inches. Weight is approx 970 grams. No hallmarks that we can see, but perhaps when it is cleaned it might show up. The piece is in good shape. There is only one small “ding” on the. Side by the rim. The finial does have some damage. It has been dented in slightly. Structurally, the piece, the lid is in good shape. The piece needs a solid cleaning. It is silvertone and will need to have someone. With elbow grease Polish it up. The inside is in good shape, not great shape but good.
