Antique German Pressed Glass Character Beer Stein – Miners Lamp c. Description: This unusual beer stein is made of pressed glass in the form of a miner’s lamp. The character steins in form of a miner’s lamp are well known among the character stein collectors. The glass mining lamp stein is the only glass character stein I know. The stein was enameled with the black enamel at the bottom and decorated with gilded highlights. The lid is made of pressed metal. In the bottom is a patent statement that is probably referred to the lid attaching hinge method. The stein is in excellent flawless condition with no cracks, lines or chips. 7.75 tall, 0.5L capacity. Antique Pressed Glass Enameled German Stein Wedding Anniversary w/Inlaid Lid c. Description: This beautiful stein was made around the early 1900s. It was made of pressed glass with molded facets that were decorated by hand with colorful enamels in white, green and gold. The lid is pewter with porcelain relief inlay showing two holding hands with flowers and inscription: “Zum Andenken” – “For the memory”. The holding hands were ususally traditional German symbol of marrige – the stein was made as a wedding gift. It was very common to give beer steins as a wedding gift or wedding anniversaries gift. The steins were quite expensive at the time and considered a valueable gifts. The inscription in the front medallion says: “Zur Erinnerung” – which is basically the same – “For the memory”. The relief porcelain inlays were quite rare – I don’t remember seeing one from that time period. The lid is marked with letter “R” on the The stein is in excellent condition. Antique German Pressed Glass Beer Stein Inlaid Lid with Humorous Newlywed Scene c. Description: This very interesting German beer stein was made around late 1880s – early 1890s. The body of the stein is made of pressed glass with molded decorations showing two Cupids drinking – quite an unusual scene. The lid is inlaid with porcelain insert. The insert is nicely and skillfully painted porcelain miniature showing a lady in a floral shop asking the sales person. Dame: Haben sie etwas sinniges für neuver heurathete? (The “cranesbill flowers” in German are called “Storkbeaks” therefore suggesting the bird that delivers babies) The stein is in excellent condition no chips, cracks or repairs. There are some age-related wear and some scratches on the bottom, but no damage whatsoever Please note – the glass steins are probably the only antique steins that could be used for their original purpose – they could be washed perfectly clean. It’s so nice to have a good brew from about 140 years old drinking vessel! It is 9 tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.5L capacity. I guarantee my description and dating.
