Antique German Regimental Beer Stein with Prism 9.25 Tall 1/2 Liter
Description: Antique German Regimental Beer Stein with Prism 9.25 Tall, 1/2 Liter Translucent bottom with photo which is visible in the light. Approximate Measurements: 9 1/4 X 3 7/8 inches. Very good, vintage condition, as found. There is a possible repair on the inside of the lid. Lease see photos to best determine overall condition.
RARE GERMAN Beer Stein Prism Lid GEBHARD SCHMID Prince Luitpold 1902 Beppo
Pictured on the stein is. Luitpold Karl Joseph Wilhelm Ludwig, Prince Regent of Bavaria. (born 12 March 1821 – died 12 December 1912), the de facto ruler of Bavaria from 1886 to 1912. Gebhard Schmid’s father was Magnus Anton Schmid born Sept. 02, 1844, Lechaschau, Tirol, Austria; died June 30, 1924, Wangen-Allgau, Bavaria, Germany. Gebhard Schmid was born Dec. 24, 1882 in Germany; he died Oct. His wife was Agathe (Steib) Schmid. Gebhard Schmid’s children included Josef “Beppo” Schmid (born 1901, died 1956), a prominent figure in WWII. DESCRIPTION: Measures 9 1/2″ from base to tip of prism, top diameter is 3″, base diameter is 4 1/2″, the bottom of the stein is recessed about 1 1/8″ up from the base. Maker’s mark J. The black smudge on the bottom has since been removed. The inside of the stein has a raised symbol/flower that spans the bottom but can’t determine what it is. Colors in the lithopane scene are vivid and surrounded by German writing. Prism is perfect with sharp edges and no chips or cracks. The interior of the metal lid is lighter than the exterior. Antique German Regimental Beer Stein with Prism/ Pewter Lid. A nice example in VG+ condition. Lid is impressive and works well with a sturdy hinge. 9 tall (lid Closed) and appears to be a domestic market stein. Some markings include: Kgl. Inside lid marked 1-3, outside bottom edge stamped 47. There is a logo crest on the inside bottom of stein. Top of prism has a small chip at the peak (see the 2 photos). Stein came from the estate of a long time Norfolk VA Doctor who served as a US Army Medical Doctor in post war occupied Germany. Antique Prism Lid German Regimental Military Beer Stein Bavarian 9th Infantry
For the Royal Bavarian 9th Infantry Regiment. Named Soldier – Gefreiter Fromm. Some wear to the lettering and trim paint from over time. You can feel the hand painted buttons and other accent details on the panels. Soldiers last names on the back near the handle and the lithophane looks to be a member of royalty – maybe the Emperor Wilhem II. I cannot make out what the design was on the inside of the prism – looks like an explosion now. Some crazing on the bottom – pretty sure not a crack because it held water without anything leaking thru after after 3 hours. The lid is a bit loose and the connection to the handle. I have to say I was beyond thrilled to find this at a local estate. It was dirty and dusty and I can’t wait for it to find a good home. Send me your questions.
