“Man Drinking & Saying”. German ceramic, etched, 1/2 L, pewter lid. Trinken freut mich jeder Zeit. And translates to : Drinking brings me pleasure any time. Mettlach – Signed “FR” Franz Ringer – 117 years old! Condition and Description: Overall a very good condition specimen, only minor condition issue is a repaired body hairline that was very well done (nearly impossible to spot even with black light – exactly as pictured). This a nice stein, with a fun saying, great scene in typical Ringer style and has tremendous presence – displays incredibly well! Height: 6.75 tall from base to top of thumblift. Antique German Jugendstil Glass Enameled Beer Stein des. By F. Ringer c. 1905
Antique German Jugendstil Glass Beer Stein Enameled des. Description: Great stein in Jugendstil (German Art Nouveau) style. Classical hand-blown bohemian glass with enameled decorations. Designed by Franz Ringer – he was the most famous Jugendstil artist and designer who actually created this style – inspired by Jugendstill/Art Nouveau historically stylized in early 1800s aesthetics called Biedermeier. A prominent painter and sculptor from Munich, he also created many well-known beer stein designs for Marzi and Remy, Villeroy and Boch Mettlach, Reinhold Merkelbach and many others. The design consists of a medallion with a scene of a hunter shooting a lleaping stag. The stein is not signed by FR signature, but this design is quite famous. You can see it in my scan of a page from “The Beer Stein Book” by Gary Kirsner, attributed to Ringer. The lid is pewter designed as well in this specific Jugendstil style. The glass steins with F. Ringer designs are quite rare – they’re really hard to find. Please keep in mind the old glass is absolutely safe to drink from – it could be cleaned perfectly as opposed to antique stoneware, pewter or pottery. The stein is in excellent condition.
