Antique German Porcelain Beer Stein Occupational Shoemaker w/Lithophane c. Description: This beer stein belongs to the “occupational” family of German beer vessels. It was made for a butcher who was very proud of his occupation. The steins of this sort were quite expensive at the time and could be compared with the regimental or Reservisten family of collectible antique beer steins. The stein was made around 1880 – 1890 of hard porcelain with hand-painted over a transfer outline art and ornate pewter lid. It is decorated with a scene of the shoemakers’ workshop, with several workers doing the shoemaker’s work. The inscription on the sides reads.
