Antique German Beer Stein Creussen Type Apostles Apostelkrug c. 1890s
Antique German Beer Stein Creussen Apostles Apostelkrug c. Description: Antique German beer stein made to imitate Renaissance period beer steins made in Creussen in 1600s. These Creussen beer vessels were extremely expensive at the time and very prestigious. In 1880s – 1890s several beer stein manufacturers produced steins imitating faience of 1700s, Creussen and Annaberg stoneware and some Westerwald stoneware of 1600s – 1700s. They were not trying to fake or reproduce them but just worked in popular at the time style called Historismus. This stein is a fine example of Historismus style. It’s form and decorations imitate Creussen steins of mid-1600s with the Twelve Apostles Theme – they show 12 figures with halos representing the twelve Apostles. The stein is made of dark brown stoneware – exactly like Creussen’s – handpainted with brightly colored ceramics paint. The stein has no cracks, chips or other structural damage. Some extensive paint wear. The lid is engraved with initials F. The lid is original to the date but is a replacement lid for the stein. The foot ring is original to the stein. Please note – I have included a picture from Johannes Vogt catalog to show the original Creussen. It is not the one for sale. It is 7 tall to the top of the finial, 1L capacity. Condition: Paint wear, replacement lid. Auctiva offers Free Image Hosting and Editing. Track Page Views With.

Antique Large German Glass Beer Stein/Server Enameled Mary Gregory Type c. 1880s
Antique Large Beer Stein/Server Mary Gregory Type Enameled c. Description: Presented is a very large and beautiful pouring beer stein/server made in a style that is called “Mary Gregory type”. There are many speculations as to who Mary Gregory was. It is known that she worked for the Sandwich Glass factory in 1880. Most often, the name “Mary Gregory” is referred to the glass with white enamel paintings on colored glass. The technique, however, originated in Germany around 1870s – the American implementation of it was secondary. This serving stein is German, and it was made in the 1880s. The stein is made of hand-blown bottle-green glass with some texture on the surface, creating a wonderful optical effect. The handle is formed into a floral stem and manually applied. The lid is pewter with ornate thumblift and three ring open type hinge. The picture is painted with white enamel with different layers forming shades and even relief giving a fantastic impression. It shows a young girl in a snowy forest admiring a flower – maybe a first snowdrop. Great serving stein with wonderful theme and in excellent condition. It is very large and impressive, standing 13.5 tall to the top of the thumblift, 2 L capacity. Height: 13.5 in. Get images that make Supersized seem small. Track Page Views With.
