The theme of the stein is “Venusberg, ” designates the legendary dwellings of Lady Venus, who luxuriously holds court with nymphs and mermaids inside the mountain named after her. She attracts men with her beauty, entices them to a life of pleasure and sin, and as such, to eternal damnation. It is in excellent condition with no cracks, no chips, etc. Dated 1901 on bottom.

DESCRIPTION Antique Mettlach Villeroy & Boch lidded stein decorated and signed by Heinrich Schlitt. Depicting a 17th c cavalier gentleman in a ruff holding a beer stein in one hand and a tobacco pipe in another. This is a PUG (printed under glaze) which is decorated on the sides with dice, a stein and smoke from his pipe representing the pleasures of tavern life. This piece dates to 1902 as represented by the impressed number 2 on the underside. Marked on the side: 1/2L H Schlitt Marked on base: 1526 1078 Geschutz, Made in Germany Villeroy & Boch Mettlach 2 A fabulous addition to your rare beer stein or vintage barware collection. MEASUREMENTS Beer Stein measures 7″ tall by 5.5″ wide by 4deep and weighs 1lb 7oz. CONDITION This stein is in good condition with some small signs of use commensurate with age. There are no chips or cracks to the porcelain (please see all pictures as they form part of the condition description).
