Antique Tricycle Photo Transfer Lithophane German Beer Stein Big Wheel Bicycle
Antique personalized photograph transferware 12 tall 1 Liter Lidded German Lithophane Beer Stein. The very rare and unusual one of a kind late Victorian photo shows two young children with a big wheeled tricycle. The stein is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, excessive wear or signs of previous repairs. The steins lid has no bends or dents but is slightly loose on the handle, it shows no damage so I would assume it was made this way. The lid can rock left to right on the handle slightly. The mug also shows a small spider crack in the bottom that also appears to be from manufacturing during the lithophane stamping process. The crack is in the pottery under the glaze and can not be felt on the glaze at all. Over all it appears to only been displayed and shows no signs of use at all, the photo shows excellent and hand painted gold trim only shows very slight wear. Antique German/Bohemian Glass Beer Stein Clear w/Red Overlay Wheel Cut c. Description: This beautiful old stein was mouth-blown of crystal glass around the 1860s. The majority of steins of this type were made in German Bohemia – now Czech Republic. It was made using a very complex and labor-intensive technique called “overlay” – a freshly-blown clear glass stein was submerged into a dark red glass to create a layer of red overlay. It was then stone-cut, creating round and oval facets that reveal the clear glass surface. The handle is attached to the red glass layer and shows the red glass layer inside the clear glass. The lid has a clear glass inlay engraved with the name “Benno”. The pewter mounts have a 5-ring closed type hinge and small feather-shaped thumblift – the typical techniques used in the 1850s – 1860s. The stein is in excellent mint condition. It is 6.25 tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.5L capacity Please note – the stein is overlayed with the red glass layer. It is not stained or flashed – the red glass layer is quite thick. Antique German Green Glass Beer Stein High Wheel Bicycle Bike Theme c. Description: Presented is a fantastic antique German beer stein made of bottle-green glass with inlaid pewter lid. The body of the stein was hand-blown of bottle-green glass, stone-cut to create vertical facets engraved with copper wheel to make beautiful flower bouquets ornaments. The pedestal and handle were also stone-cut. The lid is pewter with bronze inlay showing two cyclists on high-wheel bicycles. The inscription above the cyclists reads: “All Heil” – that was the official motto of the sports of cycling in old Germany. It means “All well” literary but was used as Safe travel! The high-wheelers or “penny-farthing” bicycles were common in the 1880s, by the mid-1890s they were mostly replaced by the safety bicycles. Bicycle sports was very popular in Germany in the 1880s – early 1900s. There are many steins featuring bicycles and bicycle societies themes, but glass steins are quite rare among them for some reason. Great glass stein with wonderful theme and in excellent condition. It was manually made using several labor-intensive techniques, resulting in an astonishing piece. It is 9 tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.5L capacity. Antique Early German/Bohemian Glass Beer Stein – Wheel Engraved Wedding circa 1820s. Description: This beautiful and very old beer stein was made of blown glass in about 1810 – 1820s. The stein is decorated with copper wheel-engravings of good quality. The front of the stein is engraved with two doves sitting on a heart. This is usually a symbol of a wedding. There is a number “3” atop of the heart – the stein most likely was a gift for the third anniversary of marriage. The sides are engraved with beautiful floral ornaments. Nice pewter lid in perfect condition with beautiful and unusual thumblift and large 5-ring closed type hinge. The lid is typical for the period of 1810 – 1820s. It is engraved with the initials A. ” and number “48 which is most likely the tavern number – back in old days, people kept their beer stein in the tavern they go, so they could drink from their own steins. They put numbers on lid for faster recognition. Actually, this habit is still alive in some places in Germany. The stein also has pontil mark on the bottom and a nice ornate foot ring. The stein is in excellent condition. It was most likely kept in a closed compartment and rarely used. The pewter is in perfect shape and the lid is sitting tight. Description: Beautiful antique German beer stein dedicated to the sport of cycling and showing a cyclist proudly standing by his old time high wheel bicycle. The side panels show Cupids riding the same high-wheel machines. It was made using a very complex and labor-intensive technique called “overlay” – a freshly-blown clear glass stein was submerged into a white glass to create a layer of white overlay. It was then stone-cut, creating heart-forming facets that reveal the clear glass surface. The handle is attached the white glass layer and also stone-cut. The lid has a porcelain overlay with a beautiful miniature painting of a couple riding a boat with a musician to entertain them. This is a real hand-painted miniature, not the usual paint over transfer outline. There is a polished-out pontil mark on the bottom. The pewter mounts have a 3-ring open hinge and ornate thumblift – the typical techniques used in the 1870s. The stein is in excellent mint condition.
