Condition is commiserate with age. Detached lid sits on rim ring properly, just severed where the tang meets the lid. 1.5 pounds empty. Ornate pewter lid with engraved initials and date. Antique Early German Beer Stein Bartmann Style Rhineland Frechen c. 1500-1600s
Smaller Antique Early German Beer Stein Bartmann Bellarmine Style Rhineland Frechen circa late 1500 – early 1600s. Description: I will be posting this week several very early German beer steins They date back to 1500s – 1600s and were made in the “Rhineland” – the region in Germany by the river Rhine where traditionally the early stoneware production took place. The most important towns to produce the stoneware were Cologne, Sieburg, Frechen and Raeren. This beer stein is one of the oldest beer drinking vessels. It dates back to the years of late 1500s – early 1600s and was made in the town of Frechen – one of the most important centers of early stoneware production in Germany. It is made in the tradition of “Bartmann” or “Bellarmine” beer steins of the same shape and color without the applied decorations. The bearded man steins from Frechen are the most classical of all the Bartmann pieces. They were produced for over a century and exported in large quantities to England, Scandinavia and the New World. It is estimated that between 1600 and 1640 approximately 10 million pieces were delivered to London and subsequently to all parts of the world. The stein is made of gray saltglazed stoneware with the applied slip of iron-rich clay that created this distinctive Frechen brown glaze – only in a very light tone. There is no applied or impressed decorations. The stein is in excellent condition for about 400 – 450 years old. Most of the Bartmannskruege are repaired or restored. This one has no chips, cracks or repairs. There is some superficial glaze crazing but no real cracks. This is a beautiful and very impressive piece that has about 400 years behind it! I guarantee my description and my dating. I have attached a photo of a very similar jug from the period painting of the mid 1500s. This is a smaller stein – about 7.5 tall, 0.5L capacity. Antique German Beer Stein Lidded. Great Condition 10 1/2 Tall SUPER RARE. Unique vintage beer stein 10 ” tall X 5 1/2″ with handle. Top opening 2 1/2. Bottom of the stein it’s a numbered 12. There is some crazing mostly on the inside the stein due age. No cracks, no chips, no repairs. In side the lid it’s number 43. The stein front are two lions standing around a gold lion! Both sides it’s a man face from the Renaissance with beard and hat. Top on the stein have a lion head and turquoise dragons. The stein art work it’s raised in 3 D simply beautiful. Hand made and hand painted with gold, blue, turquoise, green, red, yellow, brown, cream. Beautifully crafted and hand painted serving pitcher stein from Germany. VINTAGE 1948 STRAUBIING GERMANY 1957 GERMAN BEER TANKARD WITH PEWTER LID HONORING TANK COMPANY FIRST BD 6TH ARMORED CAVALRY REGIMENT. BEAUTIFUL CONDITION HAS THE PEWTER ARMOR TANK ON THE TOP ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL IT IS PERSONALIZED ON THE BOTTOM TO THE PERSON THAT WAS AWARDED TO ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS NUMBER 469 ON THE BOTTOM AND GOLD AND SAYS TANK THIS IS A VERY RARE PIECE. STRAUBIING IS NOT THE MAKER STRAUBING IS A CITY IN SOUTHERN GERMANY IN THE BAVARIA DISTRICT WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN WHERE THIS TANK DIVISION WOULD HAVE BEEN STATIONED THIS DOES NOT REALLY HAVE A MAKER’S NAME ON IT SO IT WAS PROBABLY SPONSORED BY THE UNITED STATES ARMED FORCE AND WITH ALL THE ATTENTION TO DETAIL AND HIGH QUALITY I’M SURE IT WAS A VERY PRESTIGIOUS MAKER WHO MADE THESE.
VTG 1976 METTLACH VILLEROY & BOCH LIDDED GERMAN BEER STEIN Lim. Edition 813/3000
VTG METTLACH VILLEROY & BOCH. LIDDED GERMAN BEER STEIN. Not numbered like other steins. Castle top stein marked Villeroy & Boch with the Mettlach logo in an attempt to bring back the old art form. Note the Mettlach Tower is featured on lid. Without wine and love, life is dull. Mettlach beer stein does your thirst good. With merry drinking, with good behavior, a merry heart gives fresh courage. Very good condition with no chips or cracks. One flaw on top of lid, see last picture.
