Antique GERMAN REGIMENTAL Military LITHOPANE BEER STEIN 1903 Infantry, MUNICH
Made in Germany (and stamped on the bottom), this stein is unique for many reasons. To start, it is a lithopane stein with an image of a soldier and his wife on the bottom. The lid has a great design with a lion handle and a soldier and lion on the top. It is hand painted with terrific images and mention of the Infantry Regiment infanterie Rgt. 11 Comp and dates of 1903/1905 and Munich (Munchen). It appears the name of the soldier is at the bottom of the stein and the colors are just outstanding. It is in excellent condition with no nicks, chips or flakes. Antique German Art Nouveau/Jugendstil Pewter Beer Stein by J. H. &S Munich c. 1910
Antique German Art Nouveau/Jugendstil Pewter Serving Beer Stein by J. Presented is a beautiful and very stylish beer stein designed in a very distinctive Jugendstil style – the German version of Art Nouveau. This style is very specific to Germany – it is characterized by simplistic and at the same time unusual linear forms. This style was extremely popular at the time. It lasted only a decade or two, but changed the perception of design forever. The stein was made by the company J. In Munich – I was not able to identify the company but I guarantee the time period of 1910 – 1920. There is the presentation inscription engraved at the bottom: “ZUM 30 JAHR GEN PRAXIS JUBILAUM J”. It looks like the stein was presented to a doctor on his 30 years anniversary of practice. The stein is in a very good condition with some very minor dings unavoidable in the soft metal as pewter. It would require some cleaning but I will leave it to the new owner – some people prefer the antique look and patina for the pewter objects, some like to polish them to get a near silver impression it was inteneded to give at the time of manufacturing. Antique German Character Beer Stein Munich Child by Schierholz c. This very interesting German beer stein belongs to the family of character steins – steins made in a shape of an object or person. They are also called “figural”. This particular one is made in a shape of the Munich Child – the child monk that was the symbol of the city of Munich for about 800 years. It was manufactured by Schierholz – the biggest name in character stein production around 1880 – 1900. Over the years he produced many beautiful and famous character beer steins that are highly sought for by many collectors. This stein is made in form of Munich Child – the symbol of the city of Munich for many centuries. Made of high quality porcelain with the head of the Child serving as the lid. The Child is holding a beer stein and a radish – this was a very popular beer snack in old Germany. There is also an intricate very detailed lithophane on the bottom that shows the famous Rathaus (City Hall) on the main Munich square Marienplatz. A stunning, colorful, authentic Beer Stein from Germany……. From the 1960’s. The front of the stein depicts Munich, Germany…… The side of the stein shows the four beer halls in the city of Munich… The stein has never been used and is in very good condition. The pewter top is stamped with a design to enhance the appearance of the stein. The handle is earthenware – as is the stein. Measurements are 9 1/2 tall….
