The stein features a high pewter lid with the following engraved presentation. “GEWIDMET von den DAMEN und HERREN des STAMTISCHES bei ZIEMERS 1908″. (Dedicated by the ladies and gentlemen of the Tribal at Ziemers 1908). The stein stands 9 1/2 tall and displays handsomely. It is in excellent pre-owned condition as shown with no damage or restoration noted.

It has a cat on the lid and the body has gnomes, hops an instruments and a large drinking horn. The strap is tight and the tang is firmly affixed to the lid. German Beer Stein Mettlach 2140/801 Grade Train Batallion. The majority of authentic German regimental beer steins were produced between about 1890 and 1914. During this time, military service was compulsory in Germany. Most men would take basic training between 17 and 20 and then enter the reserves until age 40. A group of men would enter a unit together, stay in the same unit for training and be discharged as a unit. Rosters of names from your unit, or regiment, could be added to the steins and these became known to collectors as regimental steins. The beginning of WW I effectively ended the production of regimental steins as labor and materials were diverted to the war. We are Gannon’s Antiques and Art in Fort Myers, Florida. Antique handmade German Mettlach painted pottery pewter lidded beer stein mug
Up for sale is a high quality antique lidded German, Mettlach pottery beer stein. It’s sculpted out of thick pottery walls, has a glazed off-white finish, and is beautifully painted by hand with a stylized figural scene. The stein has a nice hinged pewter lid which features a jesters head thumb piece. This lovely stein is in great condition and measures 6 3/4 inches tall by 5 3/4 inches long.
