1800’s Hand Painted German Beer Stein For Judge Von Mandelsloh Porcelain & Glass. Beautiful Hand Painted German Beer Stein For a Judge Ms. Wagemann with the Mandelsloh Family Crest painted on the lid. The glass has a lot of chipping along the bottom edge where it was obviously used many times at the beer hall back in the late 1800’s. It looks to be dated from 1881/1882. The top is all hand painted. The stein is about 6 1/2 tall. Measures 13″ tall (Top of lid to base), has a 3.5″ opening, and a 5 diameter base. The base is recessed 2″ into the stein creating the “foot. Marked on the underside 243 over an 8. Beautiful highly detailed relief designs all around. Intricately embossed pewter lid, with fancy scrolled feather thumb lever. Vibrant cobalt blue over gray salt glaze. Gorgeous old German stein! Germ crown on bottom. 5 to top of lid by 4 at widest. 1843 inscribed on underside of lid. Lid loose on handle so it tilts. Glass on both sides rough likely from rubbing on sides as I t was being stored repeatedly. Glass on front and rear much clearer. Thanks everyone for looking.
