Early 20th Century German Faceted Glass Beer Stein w Porcelain Inlaid Lid
Early 20th Century German Faceted Glass Beer Stein. The stein features clear and frosted vertical panels of glass. A gold “AK” decorates the center front. The gold letters are trimmed with thin red and black colors. The pewter banded lid is decorated with inlaid porcelain that is decorated with a colorful design — a white ground featuring a shield “Alle 9″– lion, pig and dog — “Kegelclub Loreley”. The lid is trimmed with a thin beaded band. The interior part of the lid is inscribed, and dated 1913. The thumblift is an Eagle shape. The base has an impressed star design. The side by the handle is marked, “0.45L”. SIZE: 7 1/8 inches high to the top of the thumblift x 5 1/2 inches wide from the side to the edge of the handle. CONDITION: Consistent with age, the stein has some wear. The top rim has some roughness with flakes, and an inner rim chip near the handle area. The lid has some wear with discoloration around the edge of the white porcelain. The base rim edge has a few rough areas. Overall the stein is in nice condition. Great collector’s stein. Antique German Stoneware Beer Stein King Gambrinus Regensburg Inlaid Lid c. 1870s
Antique German Stoneware Saltglazed Beer – Stein King Gambrinus Regensburg Inlaid Lid c. Description: This type of very old German beer steins is traditionally called “Regensburg” type even though the majority of them were produced in the Westerwald region. These steins are different from the very traditional Westerwald beer vessels – they did not use cobalt-based glaze so the steins keep natural clay color. In Germany, they call them “Model” steins referring to the method of manufacturing. These steins were press-molded to a wooden form, they were turned afterward to make the insides round, then they were fired and the salt was applied to create the very solid surface. The stein is circa the 1870s. The relief decor on the front of the stein shows King Ga mbrinus – the legendary inventor of hopped malt beer. It was a very common subject for Regensburg steins – a massive figure of the King sitting on a beer barrel and saluting with a stein. The sides of the stein are decorated with ornate hops vine motifs. The lid is pewter with 5-ring closed-type hing and the thumblift sitting on the lid – all typical for the 1870s. There is a porcelain inlay in the lid with hand-painted words: “Zur Erinnerung” – “For the memory”. The stein is in excellent condition – a rare thing for a stein this old. There are no chips, cracks or repairs. There are some manufacturing impurities, but they all are part of the manual manufacturing process. Remember, the Regensburg steins of the 1860s – 1870s were not industrialized ware, there were made by hand in small shops. The manufacturing glitches only make these pieces even more interesting. Antique German Mold Blown Glass Beer Stein Bronze Inlaid Lid with Scull – Medical Theme c. Description: This very interesting German beer stein was made around the 1880s. The body of the stein is made of mold-blown glass with molded ribs for the perfect optical effect, and hand-formed applied handle. The lid is inlaid with bronze onsert with a scull and crossed bones. But this is not a pirate’s stein – the lid is engraved with the owner’s name – Dr. Apparently, he was a medical doctor, and the scull and bones he considered as a symbol of his profession. I think the stein could be categorized as “occupational” for the medical occupation. Quite interesting and unusual item. The stein is in excellent condition with no damage whatsoever, no chips, cracks or repairs. Please note – the glass steins are probably the only antique steins that could be used for their original purpose – they could be washed perfectly clean. It’s so nice to have a good brew from about 140 years old drinking vessel! It is 7 tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.5L capacity. I guarantee my description and dating. Bierfabrication 1873 1/2L German beer stein antique, painted hunter inlaid lid
“Bierfabrication 1873 + Hunter Lid”. German stoneware, relief, 1/2 L, inlaid lid. The text on the body reads: Bierfabrication 1873. And translates to : Brewing Beer 1873. Condition and Description: Overall in very good condition. Only issues of note, some original factory lines/imperfections + minor soiling (exactly as pictured). That said, this stein is a bit different, the main theme appears to be gnomes hard at work brewing beer for King Gambrinus. The lid is quite interesting too, it is inlaid + hand painted with a forest scene in which a hunter is getting into position to fire on his quarry. Finally the thumblift is of a buck’s head. Antique German Beer Stein 1L with Inlaid Pewter Lid and Foot Ring BEAUTIFUL Gift
You are ordering this 1 liter, antique, German, pottery beer stein with inlaid lid and pewter foot ring. No makers marks found. Stylized writing on the pewter lid lip. Appear to be initials but any guess at the lettering is just a guess at this time. Wear consistent with age. Hairline on the interior base that does not show through to the outside. Pewter foot is secure but will spin if tested. Hinge and strap have minor wiggle but in great shape considering. About 25 degrees of the pewter securing in the 1.5 diameter inlay is missing/broken off. Inlay is tight and secure and does not spin. 8.5″ to top of inlay, base is 4.5″ diameter, weighs 2 pounds, 12 ounces empty. I searched for as long as I was willing to for a matching capacity mark without success. Fellow collectors, do you have one with the same pewter lid design, I’d love to see pics of it for comparison.
