German Porcelain Lithophane Hand Painted 1 L Beer Stein
For your consideration is an old German hand painted beer stein, depicting a 2 hunters a hunting dog and a maid. It measures 11″ high to the tip of the finial, has a base diameter of 4.5″, weights 2 pounds and 11 ounces. It is in pretty good vintage/used condition with consistent loss painting as shown on the posted photos and a small/superficial chip on the bottom edge (see last photo). Antique circa 1890-WWI German Artillery Regimental Stein Lithophane Porcelain Pewter Lid. For your consideration is a very interesting German regimental military tribute stain with pewter lid. The cannon figurine at the lid’s finial suggests artillery, as well as the logo and the scenes in relief at the border. Fine porcelain body with lithophane bottom depicting a family scene, possibly before a battle farewell, the woman holds a handkerchief, the man is in uniform. An array of colorful hand tinted transfer scenes are featuring the regiment glory. Gothic text in German gives additional details, as well as lists the names of the soldiers. The coats of arms in the center bears the number 47. The 47th (2nd Kurhessian) Field Artillery Imperial German Regiment was raised in 1899. 12.5″ tall overall x 5″ wide with handle x 5.75 base diameter. Weighs about 2 lbs. The thumbpiece is missing. Surface craquelure / hairline at the base of the handle, and a minor one at the bottom, both not showing to the other side of the surface. Local Pickups Are Welcome! German Karl Rau Porcelain Regimental Stein Lithophane Cannon Lid, Nude Bottom. One of a kind highly collectible. A very nice stein made in Germany, it has a round base with straight sides tilted slightly inwards and ending in a plain rim. The stein has a lithophane showing an officer shaking hands with a woman. Other paintingss showing a regiment moving a cannon. A scene with officers drinking around a table. Which means Munich in Bavaria. The stein has a metal cannon lid and inside the stein there’s a thumb piece in form of a naked woman. It’s just a rare gorgeous German piece of art. The piece have the mark of Karl Rau consists of K and R back to back with a crown above. Antique German Lithophane Regimental Beer Stein Hand Painted & Enameled C 1905
ANTIQUE GERMAN LITHOPHANE REGIMENTAL BEER STEIN HAND PAINTED & ENAMELED – CIRCA 1905. Measures approximately 11″ high by 4 1/4″ in diameter at the base by 5 1/2 deep (front to the back edge of the handle). Excellent condition with the exception of one chip at the base. A ceramic restorer can easily repair this chip. The majority of authentic German regimental beer steins were produced between about 1890 and 1914. During this time, military service was compulsory in Germany. Most men would take basic training between 17 and 20 and then enter the reserves until age 40. A group of men would enter a unit together, stay in the same unit for training and be discharged as a unit. Many souvenir items were available such as pipes, clocks, flasks and especially steins. Rosters of names from your unit, or regiment, could be added to the steins and these became known to collectors as regimental steins. Regardless of what the stein was made of, almost all had pewter lids. The most common sizes are half-litre and one-litre. The beginning of WW I effectively ended the production of regimental steins as labor and materials were diverted to the war. A lot of reproductions of regimental beer stein have been made. This stein has all the features and characteristics of an authentic, original regimental beer stein. I do not see any of the usual signs of a reproduction stein.
