Ceramic beer stein, approx 8.75″ x 3″ across -depicting a monkey in a khaki uniform with a tobacco pipe and a Prussian-style helmet, clutching a sheet of paper with the German saying: “Wie die Raupe vom Schmetterling stammt vom Affen der Kater” (roughly, ” As the caterpillar comes from the butterfly, from the monkey comes the tomcat”, in which the “monkey” and “tomcat” are used as euphemisms for drunkenness and the resulting hangover, respectively). The base is marked “837” Western Germany. The sticker says “Golden Crown E & R”. The stein is in excellent condition and has no chips or cracks. It is vintage and used, so paint may show signs of wear. Please examine pictures carefully.
