Antique German Beer Stein, Dorfner & Co, 1 Liter Yelloware, c. 1826-1890
Apparently, Dorfner & Co, had about a 65 year history in 19th century Munich, Bavaria. From 1826 -1883, there were 4 ownership changes, but there were always at least 2 Dorfners out of the 2,3, or 4 partners in the firm. Dorfner & Co’s claim to fame was their ability to be first in developing a nice yellow glaze not being found on German Steins up to that time. Upon close examination, it appears to be yelloware, as the clay being used is also yellow. The young man in the stein is not a knight or soldier, but a worker, as he is wearing a Workmans knife and a leather holster apparently full of keys, as maybe a watchman at the brewery? Translation of saying is, The old Germans always drank one more. There are no chips or cracks, just normal ware for a 200? Year old beer stein. Please inspect all photos to determine condition.
