Description: This very interesting German beer stein belongs to the family of character steins – steins made in the shape of an object or person. They are also called “figural”. This particular one is made in the shape of a literary character – Sir J oh n Falstaff, the famous comic personage of several Shakespeare’s plays. He was very popular in Germany as a beer drinking symbol in was one of the most favorite character among the German university student population. The stein is m ade of the very traditional salt-glaze stoneware with cobalt-blue and magenta glazes, and pewter mounts. The lid is engraved with a presentation inscription – the stein was a gift from several students to a fellow student dated 1880. Excellent flawless condition – no chips, cracks or other damage.
