Large Antique Blue and White Porcelain German Beer Stein Delft Style w/Lithophane by Swaine and Co. Description: Presented is a large antique German porcelain beer stein made around the early 1900s. Beautiful hand-painted picture decorations in underglaze flow cobalt-blue. This type of decoration is called “Delft style” and usually associated with Dutch porcelain. It shows a bucolic Dutch view with a canals and windmills. The stein was made by German company Swaine & Co (1854 – 1920) in Huttensteinach, Thuringia. Swaine produced very few steins, just 3 or 4 varieties, all with this Delft style motives. The large 1 liter one is quite rare. Pewter lid with matching porcelain inlay featuring a windmill. Nice lithophane in the bottom (a picture you can see against the light) showing a farewell scene with hunters leaving for their hunt.
