Antique Detailed October 1 1912 German Pewter Stein Marienurg Wurzburg Germany
Here is an absolutely fabulous rare 12 inch tall intricately detailed relief antique German pewter lidded stein featuring panels with landscapes and buildings in Marienburg, and Wurzberg and shield beneath the handle, with bands detailing people drinking and playing, garland and putti playing instruments along with an acorn finial on the top. Words can’t and even my pictures fall short of describing how beautiful this delightful piece which bears the date October 10, 1912 actually is. October 10, 1912 is significant because it denotes the event of a total solar eclipse, and perhaps that rare phenomenon is what the jubilant figures celebrating in the band around the lid are enjoying. Lower bands include floral garland while the one around the base depicts several putti playing instruments and scroll work. The statue and bust, the buildings, castle and landscape are incredibly intricate and are marvelous example of the highest quality pewter craftsmanship of early 20th century Germany.
