German Regimental Military Beer Stein 1902-04 Artillery Named-Roster-Marked #3/6
German Regimental Military Beer Stein. Some inclusions and details on this unique, personalized, and symbolic stein. Reservist Bochter; years and branch and of service; unit and garrison town. Members of Bochter’s unit are listed to each side of the handle. Cannon finial – artillery unit. Lithophane base: farewell or domestic scene. To bottom left of scene are initials and number 3/6. Liter mark at top edge. Gothic-style black text appears hand-applied. The German text beneath the art is possibly translated as. “Artillery shows itself in every enemy when pintz cannons come”. Much more German text. An experienced collector’s comments encouraged me to research and learn about this special, unique stein. I CLAIM NO EXPERTISE in ANY COLLECTIBLES, ANTIQUES, the GERMAN LANGUAGE. ALL INFORMATION in my AD is MY UNDERSTANDING of PUBLICLY FOUND & seemingly RELIABLE WEBSITES. AGAIN, details herein are my understanding – I MAY BE WRONG. Any expert input or critique is much appreciated! And my thanks to Mr RichC. I do not find the typical signs of a reproduction as detailed on reputable sites – I MAY BE WRONG. Height about 10 1/2 including lid. Porcelain portion 6 3/4″ high, 3 1/8″ diameter top, 4 1/2 diameter base. Weighs 2 pounds 2.5 ounces. As found, I just rinsed off dust, didn’t clean the metal lid. VIVID COLORS under glossy glaze. Maybe some usual age crazing. NOT SURE if LID is PEWTER or TIN (will refer to as’metal’). Metal lid topside has scuffs, scratches & is darkened with age. Metal lid underside is shiny with marks, discoloration, scuffs & shading. Lid and handle wrap seem a bit loose & wobbly, hinge appears to be in proper alignment. Lid base is a bit out of round. The finial is off-kilter with some bends to the base under cannon wheels. Overall, the lid & finial need expert adjustment, tightening, straightening & realignment. The red ring around the base, topside, has rough areas with either chipped paint or imperfect application. Base edge is unglazed, rough finish, with marks and grayish shading. Zoom in on all photos. MAIN PHOTO is a COMPOSITE of the SINGLE STEIN LISTED for SALE. ALL PHOTOS depict the single REGIMENTAL STEIN you will RECEIVE. TRACKING & ADULT SIGNATURE.
