New Orleans Gators State seal by M&R 1/2L German beer stein Antique #6042
“New Orleans – Gators, Oranges, Banjo Player & State Seal”. German stoneware, relief, 1/2 L, inlaid lid. “Souvenir of New Orleans”. By Marzi & Remy. Condition and Description: Overall in very good condition, only knock, a tear to the the pewter where the tang & lid meet (partial tear has been stabilized with J-B weld, shown in last pic – exactly as pictured). This is a curious stein sporting multiple alligators, oranges, Louisiana’s state seal which depicts a mother pelican wounding her breast to feed her young from her own blood, a Banjo Player & Souvenir of New Orleans on the – this stein has tremendous presence and displays well! This stein appears to be fairly unique, in that I have been unable to find another example of it anywhere. Marzi & Remy # 6042 is supposed to only be a Florida souvenir stein, it is # 6007 that is either Florida or Louisiana. Maybe a prototype or test stein that never really took off, or perhaps part of a small custom batch order to commemorate the state seal adopted in 1902? Definitely a bit of mystery with this stein! Height: 9.2 tall from base to top of lid. Width: 4.2 at the base. Please feel free to message me with any questions, and thanks for looking!
