Surface wiped carefully and inspected for sale. No chips, cracks, or repairs. Stein was very likely displayed in a kitchen setting for a long time where cooking grease has accumulated on the pewter. Leaving more detailed cleaning decisions to future owner. There is what appears to be a production flaw on the body rim as photographed. With a jewelers loope, it appears that production blemish is covered by glaze and light color area is raised (not a chip into the stein or material missing). No notable physical damage found. Hinge and strap are tight and operate as intended. Normal / expected production flaws consistent with steins produced during the turn of the 20th century. Has the look and feel of having been a cherished display only piece since its creation in 1899.
