Antique German Military Regimental Beer Stein Royal Bavarian 1 Inf. Description: Original regimental (Reservisten) stein c. Belonged to Gefreiter (PFC) Hummel of 9. Company of the 12 Bavarian Infantry Regiment named after Prince Arnulf stationed in Neu-Ulm in 1903 – 1905. New-Ulm (New Ulm) is a town in Swabia, Bavaria – very close to the city of Ulm in Wurttemberg. Prince Arnulf was the son of Prince Regent Lutpold of Bavaria, and one of the famous Bavarian military generals. Made of hard porcelain with lithophane in the bottom showing a Portrait of King Ludwig II of Bavaria. The front scene shows the the garrison barracks of Neu-Ulm, regalia of the regiment with a crown and the Coat-of-Arms of Bavaria. The side pictures show scenes of everyday military life. Magnificent figural lid with two soldiers standing, and with Heraldic Lion representing the Kingdom of Bavaria for the thumblift. There is a chip on the upper rim (covered by the lid), a faint hairline coming from it, and a minor lithophane crazing. The lid is in excellent condition. It is 11 tall, 0.5L capacity. The bottom of the stein is damaged – there is a glued hole in it. It was a custom in some German families to make a hole in the bottom of someone’s very special stein when the owner dies, so nobody could drink from it again. There are many Regimental and also occupational stein with this kind of pierces holes. It is 11 tall, 0.5L capacity. Please note – this is original authentic regimental stein from the period. Circa 1920 Bavarian Pewter Beer Stein with German Relief Artwork, Made In Germany. Minor ding on lid. Minor crack on thumb piece. Angel and Balance Makers Mark on bottom (for authenticity). I’ve only been able to find 4 others online period, 3 others identical to mine with just the differences of dings and tarnishing. I’m offering mine for much less due to the fact there is a very minor age crack starting on the thump piece (in the pictures) and a little bit of a bend on the top front lip of the lid in the pictures.
