Antique German Porcelain Character Beer Stein Munich Child-Schierholz c. 1890
Antique German Character Beer Stein Munich Child by Schierholz c. This very interesting German beer stein belongs to the family of character steins – steins made in a shape of an object or person. They are also called “figural”. This particular one is made in a shape of the Munich Child – the child monk that was the symbol of the city of Munich for about 800 years. It was manufactured by Schierholz – the biggest name in character stein production around 1880 – 1900. Over the years he produced many beautiful and famous character beer steins that are highly sought for by many collectors. This stein is made in form of Munich Child – the symbol of the city of Munich for many centuries. Made of high quality porcelain with the head of the Child serving as the lid. The Child is holding a beer stein and a radish – this was a very popular beer snack in old Germany. There is also an intricate very detailed lithophane on the bottom that shows the famous Rathaus (City Hall) on the main Munich square Marienplatz. The stein is in excellent condition with only very minimal paint wear. It is 8 tall, 0,5L capacity. Please look through my auctions. Year: early 1 890 s. Get images that make Supersized seem small.
