Antique German Enameled Glass Beer Stein Farmers Occupation c. 1820s
Antique German Enameled Glass Beer Stein Farmer’s Occupation c. Description: This very interesting stein was made in the so-called Biedermeier period of 1800 – 1820. It is made of blown crystal glass with a round pedestal and a massive hand-applied handle. The stein is nicely painted with glass enamel – this was a technique that required some serious skills and created beautiful artwork. It shows the tools of farmer’s trade – hayfork with a scythe and a rake. This is a typical “occupational” beer stein of the early 1800s, dedicated to the farmer’s occupation. This type of glass beer steins was very common in the 1800 – 1820. The steins of this kind came mostly from Bohemia. The lid is of a steep type with the cone-shaped thumblift sitting on the lid and five-ring closed type hinge – also typical for this period. The lid is engraved with initials M. The stein has a line on the back, where the bottom of the handle connects. It is quite stable and shows a wonderful appearance. The stein is 9 tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.5L capacity. Condition: Line on back, otherwise excellent. Get images that make Supersized seem small. Track Page Views With. Auctiva’s FREE Counter. Antique Mettlach Etched Tapestry Stein 2967 Farmers with Piglets Mug 0.5L Stein
Antique 1/2L Mettlach Art Nouveau Tapestry Stein #2967. The Villeroy & Boch factory was originally established on the grounds of a former Benedictine abbey in 1809 on the Saar river in southwest Germany by Johann Franz Boch-Buschmann who merged with his competitor Nicholas Villeroy in 1836 to create the firm of Villeroy & Boch. There are over 1500 different steins, no definite number is known but is estimated of up to 2000 were produced, with just as many varied & talented artists. This particular stein is of the Art Nouveau Tapestry series. Titled “Farmer with pigs”. Securely & is made of pewter and beautifully designed. The German writing on the stein translates as follows. Ein froher Sinn das Allerbest, hast du ihn schon, so halt ihn fest. A happy mind is the best, if you already have it, hold on to it. 2303105006B – bin G.
