Vintage German Figural Pottery Beer Stein Monkey Smoking Pipe Matthias Girmschei
VINTAGE GERMAN FIGURAL POTTERY BEER STEIN MONKEY SMOKING PIPE MATTHIAS GIRMSCHEI. VINTAGE GERMAN FIGURAL POTTERY BEER STEIN MONKEY SMOKING PIPE MATTHIAS GIRMSCHEID 828 EXCELLENT CONDITION. Here offered is a mid 20th Century Art Pottery Figural Beer Stein which, I believe, is from the Matthias Girmscheid Pottery Company Germany. This is stamped on the bottom 828 Germany. This shows a comic Monkey in a Top Hat Smog a Pipe. This is in excellent vintage condition with no chips. Cracks, or paint loss. This is 4″ in diameter on the base 5 3/4″ from front to back of handle, and 8 1/4 high. The “Old-German Beer Stein” tag is dated 1960 and was in the Stein when we acquired it from a recent Estate Sale. I do not know if it was original to the Stein or not. All our items are unconditionally guaranteed. We do our best to describe and picture our items. If there is damage or anything that we see as more than normal wear it will be mentioned and a photo supplied. We are not experts and would appreciate any help if we have missed something. Vintage German Colorful Lidded Military Monkey Beer Stein Matthias Girmscheid 9
Notice – Through April 10. What a conversation piece this German Military Monkey beer stein would make! This comical, colorful beer stein was originally made by J. It is now made by Matthias Girmsheid. The message on his belly reads. Wie die Raupe vom Schmetterling, stammt vom Affen der Kater. As the caterpillar comes from the butterfly, from the monkey comes the tomcat. To appreciate the meaning, it must be understood that the tomcat (Kater) is both a German symbol and idiomatic expression for a hangover, and that monkeys (Affen), in Germany and elsewhere, are symbolic of drunkenness (monkey on one’s back). In great vintage condition with normal age-related wear. 9″ tall to tip of his hat – 6″ to the rim. 6 wide from front to handle. 3- opening under lid. Would make a great addition to your barware display or for any stein collector. Your item will be carefully packaged to ensure it arrives to you in perfect condition. I strive to photograph each piece to present their unique artistry and condition but reflections/glare are nearly impossible to overcome. If you have any questions about a piece, please send me a message.

Matthias Girmscheid Figural German Ceramic Owl Character Beer Stein Lid No. 740
Pottery, figural, 0.5L. Matthias Girmscheid was born in 1845 to merchant parents and began his working life in the family tradition, opening his own trading firm in 1870 in the town of Höhr. Girmscheid’s manufacturing company began it’s life in 1884 and was apparently engaged initially in the manufacture of clay pipes. It is not known precisely when Girmscheid expanded his operation to include the manufacture of beer steins and related stoneware products, but by 1903 the firm was listed as a “stoneware factory”. In 1920, in what was almost certainly a response to Germany’s difficult post-war economy, Girmscheid merged with the firm of Gilles & Sohn. In 1930, two years following the death of Matthias Girmsched, the composition of the firm changed again. The new firm was called Girmscheid, Michels & Company, and included among its owners: Karl Girmscheid, who had taken over for his father; Simon Gilles, of Gilles & Sohn; and Alfons and Eduard Michels. Following the death of Karl Girmscheid in 1950, the company went through a series of ownership changes, but it continues in operation today, enjoying a healthy business focused principally on the manufacture of traditional salt-glazed tableware and decorative items. Good Condition – Gentle wear. 5.25″ x 4″ x 8 (Width x Depth x Height). The sooner you pay, the sooner you get your item. Please let us know if you have any additional questions. We are sorry for the inconvenience. We do are very best to package and secure all our items so they make safe trips to their new homes.
