Mettlach 2001 k Antique German Beer Stein Merchants Business People Time = Money
Hinge and strap are tight and lid opens and closes as intended. Excellent coloration on lid and body. Interior base has what appears to be a production glaze pop that has started browning in that spot with age due to exposure to oxygen. Due to missing glaze, this stein would be for display only, not recommended for drinking. Nice, surviving example of this Book stein for Medical Professionals with the appropriate Hermes, figural, thumblift. Nice gilt coloration on inlay staff and serpents. Minor rub to the inlay from some prior impact with another object, as photographed. Nice gift for the starting or successful business person / entrepreneur in your world!

Extremely minor base scuffs consistent with careful shelf display / storage. Fancy thumblift and deep coloration. Hinge and strap are tight and operate as intended.

“Student & Barmaid with Saying”. German ceramic, etched, 1 L, inlaid lid. Was kann uns mehr erfreuen, als Weib, Gesang und Wein? Ein gut Glas Bier um halber acht, wenn mir’s die Eva hat gebracht. And translates to : What can give us more pleasure than women, song and wine? A good glass of beer at half past seven, if Eva brings it to me. Mettlach – signed Schlitt. Condition and Description: Overall a very good condition specimen, only condition issue of note is a faint 1.1 hairline to the inlay, body is excellent+ (faint hairline shown in last pic, exactly as pictured). This is a fun stein, with great color, presence and displays incredibly well – Schlitt’s style truly shines through! Height: 9.8 tall from base to top of thumblift. Scarcer Mettlach 2527 Antique German Beer Stein. 25L Portrait Creussen Style
Surface wiped carefully and inspected for sale. No chips, cracks, or repairs. Stein was very likely displayed in a kitchen setting for a long time where cooking grease has accumulated on the pewter. Leaving more detailed cleaning decisions to future owner. There is what appears to be a production flaw on the body rim as photographed. With a jewelers loope, it appears that production blemish is covered by glaze and light color area is raised (not a chip into the stein or material missing). No notable physical damage found. Hinge and strap are tight and operate as intended. Normal / expected production flaws consistent with steins produced during the turn of the 20th century. Has the look and feel of having been a cherished display only piece since its creation in 1899.

Sometime in the past 119 YEARS of this RARE Beer Stein legacy it broke and was almost seamlessly glued back together everywhere except at the bottom and within. Pictures reflect the magnified views to show the flaws for transparency. Looking through the pictures or in person and it is easily missed unless studying it. VTG METTLACH VILLEROY & BOCH. LIDDED GERMAN BEER STEIN. Not numbered like other steins. Castle top stein marked Villeroy & Boch with the Mettlach logo in an attempt to bring back the old art form. Note the Mettlach Tower is featured on lid. Without wine and love, life is dull. Mettlach beer stein does your thirst good. With merry drinking, with good behavior, a merry heart gives fresh courage. Very good condition with no chips or cracks. One flaw on top of lid, see last picture.
