Charming Pair German Porcelain Beer Steins Lidded Schierholz Bowling Pin 3
Presented is a pair of German porcelain beer steins from Schierholz & Sohn. This pair has a bowling pin shape which matches the bowling scene displayed on the side of the steins. In the scene, you can see bowling pins crashing to the left of a young boy. The steins have a wood grain finish. There is a pewter metal rim on the lid that attaches to a pewter thumb-lift. These steins hold a 1/2 liter. This pair is marked on the underside with “Germany” and a product number. They are also each marked 1/2 L on the side next to the thumb-lift. There are no markings for Schierholz & Sohn but this pair matches identically to their “Bowling Pin #3″ stein. The steins are in great condition. There are only minor scuffs to the paint. Antique Matching Pair of German Glass Beer Steins w/Porcelain Inlays c. This very impressive and spectacular matching pair of glass beer steins were made around the 1870s. The steins were mold blown to create molded vertical facets on the inside with stone-cut circles on the outside, creating a beautiful optical effect. They were supplied with applied handles and pewter lids with pictures hand-painted over transfer outlines. They show a man and a woman dressed in traditional Bavarian costumes. Very nicely and precisely painted portraits. The glass (and sometimes stoneware or porcelain) beer steins with porcelain inlays featuring beautiful women were quite common. But here we have two identical steins, but one inlay portrays a woman, another one – a man. Most likely, they were a wedding gift for newlyweds – beer steins were quite expensive at the time and were considered perfect wedding gifts. Two beautiful old drinking vessels in excellent condition and historical and cultural significance! The steins are 5.5 tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.3L capacity. Height: 8.25 in.
