Vintage Salt Glazed Beer Stein pewter lid German embossed double Portraits 0.5L
Offering a smaller salt glazed blue stoneware Beer Stein. Lidded Stein 0.5L- HULM. Metal working embossed lid. Made of non-magnetic metal and has a very ornate “thumb” tab- with appropriate patina for its age such as spots and discoloration. Embossed Emperors Kaisers Portraits Lady and Man. Embossed letters -they read “Hopfen Und Malz Gott Erhalt’s” = Hops and malt, may God preserve them. This traditional German toast (translation: Hops and malts, God provides) reflects the practice of German brewing as governed by the Reinheitsgebot (Bavarian purity law) which states that beer should be made of three ingredients: water, barley and hops. This law was codified in the 16th century, long before scientific studies identified yeast as a requirement for beer fermentation. Etched Incised HULM on the bottom- I do not know the meaning. The stein stands approx. 7″ tall x 3 ¼” across the rim x 3 5/8 across the bottom. It Weighs 1 1/2 lbs. Great vintage condition no chips or cracks appears unused some very tiny manufacturing imperfections on the top and bottom rims-pictures 8 & 12. Please zoom and view all pictures as they are part of the description. Antique Early German Pewter Beer Stein by J. P. Rehlen Nordingen c. 1820s
Antique Early Engraved Pewter German Beer Stein by J. Description: This antique pewter beer stein was made in Germany around the 1810s – 1820s. The stein is a very classical beer vessel made in the Biedermeier period of the first quarter of the 19th century. Pure tampered form and applied ribbon handle – this is typical South German shape. Nice lid with an urn-shaped thumblift – the distinctive Biedermeier feature. The lid is engraved with A. The stein is marked on the inside with the touchmarks that belong to Johann Paulus Rehlen – a master pewterer in the Bavarian town of Nordingen in the late 1700s – early 1800s see my pics. Nordingen is located between Munich and Nuremberg – South Germany, indeed. Excellent example of just pre-industrial beer stein production. Very excellent for the age condition with minimum wear, few small dings and some oxidation. Please note this is not a stein in “style” of 1820s, this is a real beer vessel from the early 19th century. I guarantee my description and dating. The stein is in excellent condition for the age. There are some minor scratches unavoidable in the soft metal like pewter, but no dents, breaks, tears or repairs. It is 9 tall to the top of the thumblift, 1L capacity. Condition: Excellent w/minor age-related wear. Get images that make Supersized seem small. Track Page Views With.
