Charming mid 1800s German Faience Beer Stein 1L Rearing Horse Scene Pewter Lid. Presented is a charming antique German lidded beer stein, dating to the mid 1800s. This stein is white glazed faience pottery, with a colorful scene on the front of a rearing horse over a hill, against a blue sky, all done in a charmingly stylized yet distinct style. The lid and foot rim are pewter. This stein has a generous capacity of a full liter (1000 milliliters/33.8 fluid ounces), with plenty of headspace for foam. This piece is in excellent condition. There are no chips, no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs. The underside of the stein is signed with incised initials that look like KZ. Inside the lid are the letter IH (or HI, depending on orientation). The stein stands about 9 5/8 inches to the top of the lid and measures about 5 1/8 inches in diameter at the base, or about 7 ½ inches from the handle to the front. Antique German Regimental Beer Stein Hessen Hussar Regiment No. Description: Original regimental (Reservisten) stein. Belonged to Hussar Rehbehn from Hannoverisch Hussar Regiment No. Hussars were light cavalry units in German Imperial army. The stein is very typical for the mid-1890s Regimentals with pedestals and massive non-figural lids. Made of hard porcelain with lithophane in the bottom showing a courting couple in a tavern. This particular litho is not very common. The stein is in excellent flawless condition, no chips or cracks, no lithophane crazing no repairs, lid sitting tight. The finial is slightly pushed down. There is some age-related fading to the side text, but it still reads for the most part. It is large and impressive, staying at 9 tall, 0.
