Antique German Pewter Character Beer Stein Munich Child c. 1880s
Antique German Pewter Character Beer Stein – Munich Child c. This very interesting German beer stein belongs to the family of character steins – steins made in a shape of an object or person. They are also called “figural”. The stein presented is a “character” stein – made in the form of Munich Child, the symbol of the city of Munich. Created as the coat-of-arms or archival seal of Munich in 1239, the centrally depicted Münchner Kindl (Munich Child) has evolved from a hooded monk standing in front of Munich’s gate to a charming child and symbol of the city. The Child is holding a beer stein and a radish – this was a very popular beer snack in old Germany. The Munich Child character steins are probably the most common character steins ever. However, the all pewter character steins are quite rare. I’ve seen many pewter monks beer steins and also some other characters but this is the first time I see Munich Child. The stein is in excellent condition there is no breaks, tears or dings. The pewter is quite solid. It is 8 tall, 0,5L capacity. Year: 1 880 s. Get images that make Supersized seem small.
