Description: This very interesting German beer stein was made around late 1860s – early 1870s. The body of the stein is hand-blown glass decorated with the cut decorations to create many several facets for the perfect optical effect. Thick cut applied handle. The bottom has polished-of pontil mark. The lid is inlaid with porcelain insert. The insert is a nicely and skillfully painted porcelain miniature showing a charming lady’s portrait. Beautiful example of miniature painting on porcelain. The stein has a large five-ring closed type hinge and squeezed ball for the thumblift – these are the clear indications of late 1860s manufacturing. It is in excellent condition with only minimal age-related wear. It is 6 tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.5L capacity. I guaramtee my description and dating.
