Antique German Merkelbach & Wick Stoneware Beer Stein. Made in Grenzhausen in the Westerwald region of Germany, the mark on the bottom is from the Merkelbach & Wick studio indicates it dates to the period of 1980 – 1921. This is an amazing, beautiful and rare piece of history. It is in amazing condition. Stands 5 inches tall and approx. The fineal at the top is slightly bent back, but could be carefully warmed and moved back. The stoneware mug is in very good condition, no chips or cracks. A similar stein displayed at the 1873 Vienna Worlds Fair (Weltausstellung 1873 Wien) is attributed to F. The Merkelbach & Wick studio was founded in 1872 by Friedrich Wilhelm Merkelbach II (1840 – 1896) and sculptorr Johann Peter Wick (1837 – 1914).
