Charming mid 1800s German Faience Beer Stein 1L Rearing Horse Scene Pewter Lid. Presented is a charming antique German lidded beer stein, dating to the mid 1800s. This stein is white glazed faience pottery, with a colorful scene on the front of a rearing horse over a hill, against a blue sky, all done in a charmingly stylized yet distinct style. The lid and foot rim are pewter. This stein has a generous capacity of a full liter (1000 milliliters/33.8 fluid ounces), with plenty of headspace for foam. This piece is in excellent condition. There are no chips, no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs. The underside of the stein is signed with incised initials that look like KZ. Inside the lid are the letter IH (or HI, depending on orientation). The stein stands about 9 5/8 inches to the top of the lid and measures about 5 1/8 inches in diameter at the base, or about 7 ½ inches from the handle to the front.
