Large Antique Early German Beer Stein Muskau Tullenkanne Spouted Pitcher c. Description: The beer steins made before 1800 are quite rare – at that time, before the industrial revolution, the production was all manual. Every stein made in the early period was unique, decorated by hand and rarely replicated. The stein presented is a pouring stein made with a spout – the pouring beer vessels of this type were called “Tuellenkanne” or “spouted pitcher” in Germany. It was made in early 1800s, around 1820s, it is guaranteed old give or take 10 years. It was made in the town of Muskau – on the very East of Germany at the border with Poland. This brown-glazed stoneware was very popular during the first half of 1800s. The Muskau factory produced them in large quantities in all kinds of sizes. The larger pouring steins were usually exported to Hungary, Bohemia and Austria, where they were called “Prague jugs” since they were transported and distributed through Prague. This one is quite large – it stands 16 tall and holds 5 liters of brew. The lid is made of pewter with the urn-shaped thumblift typical for early 1800s. The spout is made of pewter as well. The stein is in a good shape – a very rare condition for a ceramics piece about 200 years old. There are some minimal chips on the bottom of the stein, unavoidable in the stoneware item this old. There is also a small chip on the upper rim under the lid. There are no major chips, no cracks or even hairline. This is a very good condition for a beer drinking vessel this old. Large Antique German Brown Earthenware Beer Stein Melonenkrug Bunzlau c. 1750s
Antique Early German Brown Earthenware Beer Stein Melonenkrug Bunzlau c. Description: Presented is a rare example of early German pottery made around mid-1700s. This high-fired earthenware brown-glazed beer stein was made in Bunzlau – the town in Lower Silesia. In fact, all the pottery production from small towns in Lower Silesia is called “Bunzlau”. Every German town and every region that was known to make pottery had it’s own unique technologies and trade secrets. That’s why we can determine where a particular piece was made based on the appearance, style and the type of the pottery. The steins of this kind were called “Melonenkrug” or “Melon-shaped stein” because of round shape and vertical or diagonal ribs. These ribs were made by hand from inside initially and later with a help of a special instrument. The lead-based brown glaze was typical for Bunzlau. The pewter lid is dome-shaped with hollow ball thumblift. It is engraved with initials F. The pewter lip ring and neck ring were intended to support the neck and is very typical for Bunzlau Melonenkruge. The stein is large and impressive – it stands 15 tall to the top of the thumblif, with approx. A very similar but smaller stein is featured in Gery Kirsner’s “The Beer Stein Book” on page 40. The stein is in a good condition, the appearance is excellent. The handle was broken some time ago and glued back together, supported by the pewter handle strap. Otherwise no issues – no cracks or chips or any other repairs. Some age-related glaze and pewter wear only. This is a very good condition overall for a stein over 250 years old. It is very impressive and elegant and a true historical piece that carries over 200 years of both culture and technology. I guarantee the authencity. Track Page Views With.

Large Antique German Glass Beer Stein Figural Pewter A’Schmarrn G. T. E. V. D. 1937
Large Antique German Glass Beer Stein Figural Pewter Enameled A’Schmarrn G. Description: Fantastic large antique German beer stein made of hand-blown crystal glass with applied handle, enameled decoration and absolutely astonishing pewter. The design shows a waitress in a tavern bringing some dish to a group of men in traditional Bavarian attire, with one of the man being very excited about the dish (and maybe the waitress as well). Apparently, the Bavarian life was considered true German unspoiled bucolic way of living. The name of the painting is “Kaiserschmarrn” – it is a popular Bavarian desert dish of shredded pancakes with many different sweet sauces and fillings. So, the waitress in the picture is bringing these “A’Schmarrn” to the table. The stein features absolutely fantastic pewter with a steeple lid toppled with a figural finial in the form of a dancing Bavarian couple. The stein also has a massive ornate foot ring – the pewter mounts of this quality are rarely seen. The lid is engraved with a presentation inscription: Gew. (Gebirgs Trachten Erhaltungs Verein) is a “Mountain Costume Preservation Society”. Goldbergler Helfendorf is still present and quite active in the Helfendorf area of Bavaria. There are actually some G. This is a very impressive stein measuring 12 tall to the top of the finial with the capacity of 1 L. The stein is in excellent condition with no paint wear, no chips, cracks or repairs. Get images that make Supersized seem small. Track Page Views With.
Large Antique German Regensburg Beer Stein King Gambrinus Humorous Inlay c. 1870s
Large Antique German Regensburg Beer Stein King Gambrinus w/Humorous Porcelain Lid Inlay c. Description: This type of very old German beer steins is traditionally called the “Regensburg” type, by the name of the region where it was first produced, even though the majority of them were produced in the Westerwald region. These steins are different from the very traditional Westerwald beer vessels – they did not use cobalt-based glaze so the steins keep natural clay color. In Germany, they call them “Model” steins referring to the method of manufacturing. They were produced from the 1850s to the late 1870s. These steins were press-molded to a wooden form, they were turned afterward to make the insides round, then they were fired and the salt was applied to create the very solid surface. The stein is circa the mid- to late-1870s. The relief decor in front of the stein shows King Ga mbrinus – the legendary inventor of hopped malt beer. The lid is pewter with a porcelain inlay showing a gentleman drinking from a beer stein while three more and a full barrel are waiting for him to finish. My German is not that good to translate it perfectly, but I guess the point could be recognized. The stein is in excellent condition – a rare thing for a stein this old. On the other side – this type of stoneware is extremely hard and sturdy. The traditional cobalt-blue stoneware tends to release inner tensions more frequently resulting in hairlines. The natural color stoneware is usually free of this problem. There are some minor firing lines and other small manufacturing flaws – the pottery was mostly a manual job, – but no damage or repairs whatsoever. Nice and impressive antique beer vessel with about 150 years of history behind it. It is quite large and impressive – it stands 8 tall to the top of the thumblift, 1L capacity.
