Notice – Through April 10. What a conversation piece this German Military Monkey beer stein would make! This comical, colorful beer stein was originally made by J. It is now made by Matthias Girmsheid. The message on his belly reads. Wie die Raupe vom Schmetterling, stammt vom Affen der Kater. As the caterpillar comes from the butterfly, from the monkey comes the tomcat. To appreciate the meaning, it must be understood that the tomcat (Kater) is both a German symbol and idiomatic expression for a hangover, and that monkeys (Affen), in Germany and elsewhere, are symbolic of drunkenness (monkey on one’s back). In great vintage condition with normal age-related wear. 9″ tall to tip of his hat – 6″ to the rim. 6 wide from front to handle. 3- opening under lid. There are German words in banners that roughly translate to. “Always drink with measure and aim, never too little, never too much”. It is stamped MADE IN WESTERN GERMANY in the bottom.
