Antique Martin Pauson German Porcelain Munchner Kindl Character Beer Stein
An antique German half-height porcelain beer stein by Martin Pauson, late 19th century. Character style tankard, one of Pauson’s “Munchner Kindl” or “Munich Child” designs, with pewter fittings. 7.25″h x 3.5″w x 5.25d (including handle). In good antique condition, with no chips or cracks observed, just displaying general surface wear consistent with age, including dulling and surface scratches to the pewter and some decoration rubbing/loss, as well as some scattered production irregularities (such as pits) – see pictures. Additionally, the lid is loose and can rotate within its pewter fitting. Pewter lid fitting is engraved, possibly H. Stein is inscribed Munchner Kindl / Martin Pauson, Munchen. Vintage German Munchner Kindl Munich Child Figural Monk Lidded Beer Stein
Vintage German Munchner Kindl Munich Child Lidded Beer Stein. Attributed to Eckhardt Engler, this figural stein is marked Germany, 551 and EH 17 on the bottom. This vintage, collectible character of the Munich Child (Munchner Kindl) was the symbol of the city of Munich for about 800 years. The serene faced child wears a hooded, long monk’s robe and holds three beer steins in one hand and radishes in the other. The hand-painted detail is vibrant and well done, and the bottom orange ring of paint has a luster hue. 8-5/8 tall x 4 base diameter. Condition: Very good, preowned condition. The paint is in good shape with only minimal loss as shown. There are a couple tiny flakes: one off the robe just above the foot and a second just above it on the radish greens. Pewter collar and thumb latch are in good condition and work as expected. There is slight play in the hinge and head rotates slightly in the pewter collar. Bottom unpainted foot has a couple of flat chipssee photos. Choose the lowest cost option to your location.
