LARGE COBALT SALT-GLAZED GERMAN BEER STEIN PITCHER PEWTER LID. This is a nice early stoneware stein pitcher from Germany. It has a very deep relief design with monkeys or orangutans in the trees with acorns at the top. There is also a lizard climbing the tree at the front. The pitcher is grey salt-glazed stoneware with the typical cobalt glaze in Germany. The handle is in the shape of a tree limb. There is a pewter lid. #224 is embossed into the bottom. This is a nice large stein measuring 13-1/2″ tall and 6-3/4″ diameter at the bottom and 3-3/4 diameter at the top.
