Mid Century German Beer Stein Engraved Pewter Lid 1 L. This painted stoneware stein is embossed with text and decoration featuring a panel in which a man is greeting two women. All three are in traditional folk costume. This panel is decorated in vibrant but realistic colours. The banners flanking either side of the coloured panel feature the following text. The base is backstamped: Made in Germany. 1L embossed in top band of stoneware, and 718 embossed both on base and on the body beneath the handle. The stoneware portion stands about 8-5/8 inches tall. The lid is about 2-1/2 in height. Altogether, this piece stands about 11 tall. It is about 4-12″ diameter at the base, and measures about 5-1/4″ in width at the widest part of handle. It was a mantle display piece only and n. Ever used as a drinking vessel. It was brought back from Germany in the late 1950s. It is in excellent condition: No chips, cracks, crazing, paint loss, scratches or other visible flaws. Ours is a smoke free home.
